UP Farmer's Parked Tractor Gets Slapped With a No-Helmet Traffic Challan

A tractor parked outside farmer Brijesh Verma's home in Sultanpur's Isahakpur village was fined for riding without a helmet, an inquiry later traced the mix-up to the Bewana police station in neighbouring Ambedkarnagar district.

A bizarre traffic challan story out of Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district is going viral, after a tractor parked inside a farmer's home was booked for riding without a helmet, a violation the vehicle could not possibly have committed. The case comes from Isahakpur village under the Gosainganj police station area, where farmer Brijesh Verma uses his tractor for farming work. He recently received an e-challan message on his phone stating the fine was for not wearing a helmet, even though there is no such rule for tractors and his vehicle was parked outside his house at the time.

Photo Showed a Bike, Number Belonged to the Tractor

Confused, Brijesh opened the e-challan portal to check the evidence photo attached to the fine. It showed a young man riding a motorcycle without a helmet, there was no tractor in sight. Yet the registration number the traffic police had recorded against that very photo matched his tractor exactly. To add to the mix-up, the location logged for the violation did not match the actual spot either. Wrong photo, wrong vehicle and wrong location, yet the challan was still issued and sent to him.

Complaint on the Jansunwai Portal Exposed the Error

Rather than staying quiet, Brijesh Verma filed a complaint under number 92617900029137 on the Chief Minister's Jansunwai portal. The inquiry that followed revealed that the mistake was not made by Sultanpur police at all, it originated from the Bewana police station in the neighbouring Ambedkarnagar district. The findings report submitted on the IGRS portal confirmed that a system error linked to the Bewana station had wrongly attached the wrong vehicle number to the violation.

Instead of Fixing It, Police Handed the Farmer More Running Around

What stood out most was that even after the inquiry established the error was on the department's side, the police chose not to correct it themselves. The IGRS report instead advised the farmer to visit the Bewana police station or the concerned ARTO office in person to get the challan cancelled. As a result, Brijesh Verma, who made no mistake at all, is now stuck running between offices, while the story of Uttar Pradesh police fining a helmet-wearing tractor has become the talk of the area.
