Discontent over the prolonged delay in declaring the UPSSSC examination results escalated into an active protest in Lucknow as job aspirants gathered outside the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. More than 30,000 candidates who appeared for the Junior Engineer recruitment examination have been awaiting their results for months. Carrying posters and banners, the youth staged a demonstration and chanted slogans demanding that the state government immediately clarify when the pending exam results would be officially announced.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak Steps Out to Address Aspirants
Observing the gathering and vocal demonstration outside his residence, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak personally stepped outside to interact directly with the protesting candidates. Listening attentively to their grievances, he was informed that the candidates had been waiting for the recruitment process to move forward for the past two years. Although the written examination was successfully conducted four months ago, the selection commission had failed to issue the result list, leaving candidates anxious about their career prospects.
Direct Telephone Call to Selection Commission Chairman
Acknowledging the seriousness of the issue, Brajesh Pathak immediately telephoned the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) on the spot to inquire about the reasons behind the delay. He instructed the chairman to immediately meet with candidate representatives during the day and explain the exact status of the selection process with complete transparency. Demonstrating empathy toward the youth, the Deputy Minister emphasized that these candidates had traveled long distances using their own savings and deserved a clear, fair explanation. He stressed that these affected individuals were like family members and ought to be treated with compassion.
Upon learning that the UPSSSC Chairman was currently visiting an ongoing examination center and was scheduled to return between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM, Brajesh Pathak arranged for a 5-member delegation of students to meet the chairman at 1:00 PM to discuss their concerns in detail.
Background of the 4,612 Junior Engineer Vacancies
The recruitment drive dates back to March 2024 when the state government issued an official advertisement for 4,612 Junior Engineer vacancies. Over 30,000 candidates participated in the competitive examination held four months ago. With the final outcomes put on hold, the candidates are urging the commission to at least initiate the document verification phase without further delay so that the final selection list can be announced quickly.
Court Proceedings Delay Declaration of Exam Results
Following the intervention of the Deputy Chief Minister, a 5-member student delegation met UPSSSC Secretary Harikesh Chaurasia at the commission headquarters. During the meeting, Secretary Harikesh Chaurasia outlined the legal complications preventing the release of the results. He explained that following the notification of the 2024 recruitment, a group of candidates approached the High Court arguing that individuals who qualified in the 2023 Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) should also be granted eligibility for the 2024 recruitment drive.
Because the matter remains sub-judice, the High Court issued an interim stay on the declaration of the exam results. The secretary assured the delegation that the High Court is scheduled to hear the matter again in September, after which the commission will proceed to publish the final results in accordance with the judicial outcome.
