Panic gripped the bustling commercial junction of Ranipur Morh in Haridwar on Saturday after a routine dispute over two-wheeler parking escalated into an armed confrontation. The sudden sight of an illegal firearm in a crowded market triggered chaos among shoppers, local vendors, and commuters, prompting several people to scramble for cover as tensions mounted rapidly in broad daylight.
Heated Argument Outside Mobile Shop Escalates
According to eyewitness accounts, the entire incident took place right outside Mahakali Mobile Shop located at Ranipur Morh. An argument broke out between several youths regarding the placement and parking of a two-wheeler in front of the store. Within moments, the verbal spat intensified dramatically. In a fit of rage, one of the young men pulled out an illegal country-made pistol tucked into his waistband and began waving it around threateningly, shocking onlookers who were caught off guard by the sudden escalation.
Police Seize Weapon Amid Conflicting Claims of Gunfire
Several local residents and witnesses alleged that the youth fired a shot into the air during the confrontation, which heightened fear across the surrounding shopping stretch. However, responding police personnel have not corroborated claims of any discharge. Law enforcement officials clarified that while an illegal firearm was recovered from the suspect who drew it during the brawl, ongoing on-ground inquiries have so far found no confirmation of actual gunfire having taken place at the scene.
Alert Traders and Pedestrians Pin Down Suspect
Rather than fleeing, nearby shop owners and pedestrians demonstrated alertness and composure. Surrounding the armed youth from all sides, the crowd managed to overpower and disarm him on the spot before he could inflict harm. The Jwalapur Kotwali police were alerted immediately and rushed to the location to take the youth into custody. Officers at Jwalapur Kotwali are currently interrogating the detainee to establish how he procured the illegal firearm and to investigate every facet of the altercation.
