A devastating weather-related tragedy struck the Premnagar area of Dehradun following intense overnight rainfall that disrupted normal life. Near the Kandoli Bridge on the Lower Kandoli-Podha road, a raging torrent of rainwater swept away a Creta car during the peak of the downpour. At the time of the mishap, three individuals, including a Jaipur resident named Akshay, were trapped inside the vehicle. The sudden surge of water was so violent that a nearby parked Scorpio-N was also caught in the currents, sparking panic and chaos in the immediate vicinity.
All-Night Rescue Operations Amid Darkness and Rain
Continuous downpours caused the water level near the Kandoli Bridge to rise rapidly, turning the seasonal stream into a dangerous current. The Creta car was trapped and carried away by this sudden rush of water. Promptly upon receiving information about the disaster, an SDRF team was dispatched from Dakpathar to the site. Operating in pitch darkness amid relentless rain and treacherous, swollen waters presented massive obstacles for the rescue personnel. Despite these severe hazards, the team risked their lives to carry out an intensive search and rescue operation through the entire night.
Injured Survivor Rescued While Two Bodies Recovered
Following an extensive search spanning nearly two kilometers downstream from the incident site, a young woman named Sahaj was found in an injured condition. The SDRF team executed a swift extraction and transported her to a hospital for immediate medical treatment. However, 20-year-old Akshay and another young woman travelling in the car could not be saved. Over the course of the overnight search mission, the rescue squad successfully recovered both bodies and subsequently handed them over to the local police.
