Securing admission into an Indian Institute of Technology remains a cherished dream for millions of students across the country. Aspirants put in rigorous efforts into national-level entrance examinations like JEE Advanced, GATE, and JAM to achieve their goals. However, the benefits of securing a top rank in these tests are not limited to just winning a seat in an IIT. Several premier institutions across the nation are offering substantial scholarships and fellowships to high-achieving students enrolled in their programs. The rules and financial amounts associated with these schemes vary significantly between campuses. While some institutions grant lakhs of rupees annually based on JEE Advanced ranks, others offer monthly fellowships of up to 90,000 rupees during doctoral studies. Joining this initiative, IIT Kharagpur has announced a special fellowship on the occasion of its platinum jubilee, while institutions like IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Delhi continue to extend financial support through various structured schemes.
IIT Kharagpur Offers Monthly Fellowships Up To Ninety Thousand Rupees
IIT Kharagpur is currently celebrating its platinum jubilee year, marking 75 years of its establishment. To honor its contributions to education, research, and innovation, the institution has rolled out several special activities. Among these, the institute has launched the Director Platinum Jubilee Excellence Fellowship, known as DPEF 2026. This fellowship aims to encourage high-performing candidates from national entrance tests to pursue advanced education and research. Under this initiative, candidates securing a rank within the top 50 in GATE 2026 who choose to pursue their PhD at IIT Kharagpur become eligible for financial assistance. Selected candidates receive a fellowship of 80,000 rupees per month for the first two years, which increases to 90,000 rupees per month for the subsequent three years, subject to meeting all prescribed eligibility conditions for PhD admission at the institute. Candidates do not need to submit a separate application for this fellowship, as eligible applicants are considered through the ongoing rolling PhD admission process of the institute.
Top Fifty Ranks in JAM Also Eligible for Benefits
IIT Kharagpur has not restricted the scope of its DPEF program solely to GATE qualifiers. Candidates who secure ranks between 1 and 50 in JAM 2026 can also reap the benefits of this scheme, provided they opt to pursue a master's degree at IIT Kharagpur. Through this platinum jubilee initiative, the institute has successfully extended merit-based financial assistance beyond JEE Advanced to top performers in GATE and JAM as well. Notably, the doctoral fellowship under this scheme reaches up to 90,000 rupees per month, providing a robust financial cushion for advanced scholars.
IIT Kanpur Grants Three Lakh Rupees Annually to Top JEE Advanced Scorers
IIT Kanpur provides notable financial assistance to students who secure outstanding ranks in JEE Advanced. The Bright Minds Scholarship offered by the institute is among the premier merit-based grants for top rankers. This scholarship is specifically meant for students who land within the top 100 in the All India Rank of JEE Advanced and enroll in the BTech or BS programs at IIT Kanpur. Selected students receive a scholarship of 3 lakh rupees every year. This financial aid can continue throughout the entire four-year undergraduate program, provided the student maintains a minimum CPI of 8.0 annually. According to media reports, out of this total amount of 3 lakh rupees, 2 lakh rupees are allocated exclusively for complete tuition fees. The remaining 1 lakh rupees are designated for hostel and mess charges, textbooks, medical insurance, and other living expenses. The primary objective behind launching this scholarship is to ensure that financial hardship never becomes a barrier for brilliant minds who excel in JEE Advanced.
IIT Roorkee Provides Twenty-Five Thousand Rupees Monthly for Top Rankers
IIT Roorkee features a dedicated scholarship program tailored for high rankers in JEE Advanced. The Gems Thomson Scholarship provided by the institute is awarded to students who achieve commendable ranks in the entrance examination. According to the official scholarship guidelines of IIT Roorkee, students who secure an All India Rank of up to 250 in JEE Advanced and secure admission to the institute are eligible for this support. Under this scholarship, recipients receive 25,000 rupees per month for the entire duration of their academic program. However, maintaining strong academic performance is a mandatory prerequisite to keep the scholarship active. Students must maintain a CGPA of 8.0 or higher at the end of each academic year. Consequently, this is not merely a one-time financial grant given at the time of admission, as ongoing academic performance remains critical for its continuation.
IIT Delhi Evaluates Family Income Alongside JEE Advanced Ranks
IIT Delhi also operates scholarship schemes for students demonstrating exceptional performance in JEE Advanced, though certain programs factor in family financial standing alongside exam ranks. The Amit and Deepali Sinha Foundation Scholarship is designed for first-year undergraduate students pursuing a BTech or dual degree program. According to the scholarship documentation of IIT Delhi, 15 students are selected for this award based on their JEE Advanced ranks. Additionally, students must fulfill specified family income criteria, requiring their annual household income to be less than 9 lakh rupees. Furthermore, students must not be beneficiaries of the Vidya Lakshmi loan scheme, ensuring that the scholarship is directed toward deserving candidates who meet both merit and economic criteria.
