Water sports enthusiasts across Uttarakhand and neighboring states are gearing up for the upcoming annual aquatic meet in Nainital. Scheduled to take place on September 6, the waters of Naini Lake will host a high-energy gathering of swimmers, kayakers, and adventure sports participants. The annual event is organized by the Nainital Aquatic and Adventure Sports Association (NASA) and will be centered at the NASA Club, situated at the St. Joseph Boat House in Tallital. With preparations underway, event management officials anticipate an impressive turnout exceeding 200 participants representing diverse age brackets and competitive levels.
Broad Age Categories and Swimming Disciplines
To ensure inclusive participation that caters to children, young adults, and seasoned competitors alike, the organizers have structured the competition into five distinct age divisions. The brackets are categorized into under 10 years, 10 to 14 years, 15 to 20 years, 21 to 30 years, and 31 to 40 years. This structure creates an equitable environment where emerging talent and experienced athletes can test their stamina and technique against peers in their respective age groups.
In the swimming segment, athletes will be challenged across multiple standard strokes, including freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly stroke, and backstroke. Alongside swimming events, kayaking will test participants' speed, physical balance, and maneuvering technique as they navigate the serene yet competitive course laid out across Naini Lake.
Expanded Water Sports and Year-Round Opportunities
Beyond standard swimming races and kayaking trials, the annual gathering will showcase a wider array of aquatic demonstrations. NASA Vice President Rohit Garg stated that participants from various parts of the country are expected to arrive in Nainital for the event. He noted that the day's schedule will feature demonstrations and activities in wind surfing, diving, and several other water sports.
Garg emphasized that NASA operates water sports programs throughout the entire year, providing continuous instruction and practice facilities for interested individuals. The organization delivers specialized training across multiple aquatic sports disciplines with the dual goal of promoting local tourism and giving regional youth a structured platform to hone their athletic potential.

Competitors intending to enter the meet are required to complete their registration by September 4. The application fee has been fixed at Rs 100 per participant.
