A horrific tragedy unfolded in the Thai capital of Bangkok on Friday when an eighth-grade student embarked on a deadly shooting rampage that claimed multiple lives. Before targeting his school, the teenage shooter shot and killed his own grandparents at their residence. He then proceeded directly to his educational institution, opening fire indiscriminately on both classmates and faculty members. The brutal attack resulted in the deaths of three teachers and four students on the school grounds, alongside the shooter's grandparents at home. After executing the dual attacks, the teenage gunman turned the weapon on himself and died at the scene. The violent incident also left 15 other individuals injured, requiring urgent medical hospitalization.
Tragedy Begins at Home Before Campus Attack
Local law enforcement authorities initiating the investigation into Friday's shooting revealed crucial details regarding the sequence of events. Police confirmed that the student, enrolled in the eighth grade, murdered his grandparents at their shared house prior to traveling to the school. Upon arrival at the campus, he unleashed a barrage of gunfire inside classrooms and hallways. Following the classroom assault, the shooter inflicted a fatal gunshot wound on himself. Investigating officers are currently probing the underlying motives behind both the domestic murders and the subsequent school shooting. Preliminary findings suggest that the firearm utilized during the rampage was accessed from a family member within his household.
Chaos and Panic Unfold Across School Premises
The sudden outbreak of gunfire sparked immediate panic across the campus as frightened students fled for safety. Emergency personnel deployed rapidly to the scene, utilizing ambulances to rush the wounded to nearby healthcare facilities. Outside the school buildings, visibly shaken teachers were seen weeping and holding one another in despair. An 18-year-old student present during the rampage recalled the initial moments of confusion, explaining that the gunshots originally sounded like exploding firecrackers. The eyewitness noted that it was initially unclear that a gun was being fired, describing a sudden burst of rapid shots followed by a heavy silence, after which the gunfire abruptly resumed.
Medical Response and Rescue Operations
First responders arriving at the scene observed that numerous victims had sustained severe gunshot wounds to their chest, back, and arms. Thailand's Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong officially confirmed that the deceased victims comprised both school staff and students. Rescuer Kiatikhun Verapongpradith stated that his emergency unit arrived at the location while active shooting was still taking place. Upon searching the upper levels of the facility, rescue workers discovered a male teacher dead inside a classroom. In a separate room, responders located a female teacher who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to her chest and arm. Police authorities confirmed that 15 injured survivors remain under medical care as the investigation continues.
