A shocking incident has emerged from the famous Mount Fuji in Japan, where a father left his seven-year-old son completely unattended on the mountain while continuing his ascent for several hours. The unsettling situation came to light when employees working at a mountain hut spotted the young boy sitting by himself and promptly alerted local authorities. Police managed to contact the father, who by that time had reached the eighth station of Mount Fuji. After being ordered to return, the father was severely reprimanded by law enforcement officers.
The Climb Up Mount Fuji
The incident reportedly took place on a Thursday. The seven-year-old boy was climbing Mount Fuji alongside his father and his older brother. The group had successfully reached the mountain's sixth station, which sits at an elevation of approximately 2,000 meters, roughly equivalent to 6,500 feet above sea level. It was at this juncture that the journey took a troubling turn.
Tiredness Led to the Abandonment
During the trek, the young boy informed his father that he was exhausted and could no longer continue walking. Instead of assisting the child, the father instructed his son to stay put and wait right there. The father then proceeded further up the trail, taking his older brother along with him and leaving the seven-year-old behind.
Hours of Waiting and Police Intervention
Local media reported that the child remained sitting alone in that spot for nearly eight hours. He had a few snacks and a soft drink with him to eat and drink, but no money. Eventually, a staff member working at a nearby mountain hut noticed the unaccompanied child and grew deeply concerned for his safety. The employee immediately notified the police, who arrived at the scene and took the boy into their protective custody.
Father Contacted and Reprimanded
When the police contacted the boy's father, they discovered that he had advanced significantly and reached the eighth station of Mount Fuji. Authorities ordered him to turn back and meet them, after which the child was handed back into his care.
