Ghaziabad Tenant Arrested for Burglarizing Landlord's Home to Pay Off Nine Lakh Rupees Gaming Debt

A tenant in Ghaziabad's Kavinagar area broke into his landlord's house and stole valuables to clear a massive online gaming debt. Police arrested the accused and recovered gold, silver jewelry, and cash.

In a shocking incident reported from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, the deadly addiction to online betting and gaming pushed a young man into a life of crime. The Kavinagar police station team arrested an accused who turned out to be the victimized landlord's own tenant. The perpetrator carried out the burglary to pay off a massive debt accumulated through an online Aviator game. Authorities successfully recovered a substantial quantity of gold and silver ornaments along with cash from his possession.

The Burglary in Govindpuram

The entire incident took place in the Govindpuram neighborhood of Ghaziabad. On July 27, 2026, local resident Lallu Singh Maurya lodged a formal complaint at the Kavinagar police station regarding a theft at his residence. He reported that when the family was away, an unknown intruder broke the locks of his house, entered the premises, and stole precious jewelry and cash kept inside the almirah. Acting swiftly on this complaint, law enforcement registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation.

How the Investigation Unraveled the Mystery

Recognizing the seriousness of the case, the Kavinagar police team analyzed security footage from numerous CCTV cameras installed around the crime scene and activated their local informer network. Based on this technical and ground intelligence, police received a reliable tip-off that the suspect behind the theft was lingering near the Govindpuram bus stand. Without wasting time, the police team set up a trap and apprehended the accused on August 22, 2026.

Identity and Background of the Accused

The arrested suspect was identified as Vishal, approximately 29 years old, whose father's name is Hemraj Singh. He originally hails from village Abidnagar alias Dhundhali under the jurisdiction of Seohara police station in Bijnor district. Significantly, Vishal lived as a tenant in the exact same house located at J-57 Govindpuram owned by Lallu Singh Maurya. Because of this living arrangement, he was fully aware that cash and valuables were stored inside the landlord's house.

Gaming Addiction and Nine Lakh Debt

During custodial interrogation, Vishal made startling revelations to the police. He confessed that he had become severely addicted to playing the online Aviator game. Initially, he won around 15,000 rupees through the game, which fueled his greed and drew him deeper into the cycle. He continued playing repeatedly, but his luck turned, eventually saddling him with a crushing debt of around nine lakh rupees. Crushed under the financial burden, he briefly contemplated suicide but lacked the courage, leading him to plot a burglary instead.

Breaking Locks and Almirah Vaults

As part of his calculated plan, the accused knew that his landlord was scheduled to travel out of town for a few days and that cash and jewelry were lying unattended inside the house. Exploiting this opportunity on the night of July 24, he cut open the room locks and the almirah locker to steal the valuables. Notably, in an attempt to destroy evidence, he had even melted some of the yellow metal ornaments into smaller pieces. He was trying to offload and sell the stolen goods when police intercepted and captured him.

Recoveries and Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Police successfully recovered the stolen property and cash based on the accused's disclosure. The seized items include approximately 85 grams of yellow metal jewelry, nearly 1100 grams of white metal jewelry, and 65,870 rupees in cash. Authorities stated that the suspect has been placed under arrest and appropriate legal actions are currently underway against him to ensure due process.
