A 30-year-old American tourist has tragically died after being struck by lightning while hiking on Mount Etna in Sicily. The incident occurred on Sunday when a sudden and severe thunderstorm erupted over Europe's most active volcano while the victim was navigating the rugged terrain.
Emergency Response and Hospital Transfer
Firefighters and emergency services managed to locate the man at approximately 20:00 local time, which corresponds to 18:00 GMT. He was found in a state of cardiac arrest within a restricted zone that is occasionally utilized by visitors attempting to get closer to the summit. Emergency responders airlifted him via helicopter to Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania, but medical professionals pronounced him dead upon arrival.
