A 26-year-old woman of Indian origin was shot and killed in the city of Toronto, Canada. Law enforcement officials stated that the attack appeared to be targeted. A 37-year-old man, also of Indian origin, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.

According to a statement released by the Toronto Police Service on Saturday, the shooting took place on Friday morning near the intersection of Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard. The victim was identified as Navneet Kaur, while the suspect arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police was identified as Sharanjit Singh of Brampton.
Victim Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Police reported that officers arrived at the location after receiving a call about gunfire at approximately 7:23 a.m. They found Kaur suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Fled and Was Later Apprehended
Investigators stated that an argument took place between the woman and the suspect prior to the shooting. Following the altercation, the individual shot her and fled the area before police arrived. Authorities subsequently tracked him down and took him into custody.
Targeted Killing Charges and Homicide Unit Investigation
Sharanjit Singh has been charged with first-degree murder and failure to comply with an undertaking. Investigators believe the incident was a targeted event and that no other suspects are currently being sought. The homicide unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the case.
Media reports indicate that a witness told police Kaur was walking along Humberwood Boulevard when a man approached her, spoke with her briefly, and then shot her once before fleeing on foot. Seeing the woman fall, the witness immediately called emergency services.

This tragedy comes just days after another woman of Indian origin was killed by her partner earlier this month in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta province. Last week, 22-year-old Ritesh Kumar was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after allegedly strangling his 23-year-old partner, Damanpreet Kaur. Police classified that incident as an intimate partner homicide.
