Election authorities in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday formally published the final electoral roll following the conclusion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The comprehensive verification and clean-up drive led to a notable reduction of 1,91,479 registered electors across the state. With this revision cycle reaching its conclusion, the total number of documented voters in the state now stands at 6,96,026.
Demographic Composition and Favourable Gender Ratio
A detailed breakdown of the finalized roll reveals that female electors outnumber their male counterparts in the state. The register accounts for 3,43,709 male voters and 3,52,315 female voters, alongside two third-gender electors. This demographic distribution places the state's voter gender ratio at an encouraging 1,025 women for every 1,000 men. Furthermore, election officials confirmed that 43.61 per cent of the electors listed on the final roll currently possess either a physical or digital Voter ID card.
Progression from Draft Roll to Final Publication
The intensive revision exercise was set into motion on June 5, ushering in a significant departure from the electoral roll figures that existed prior to the SIR. Before the exercise commenced, the state had 8,87,505 registered electors on record. Subsequently, the draft roll published on July 21 brought that figure down to 7,18,046 names. During that initial draft stage, election authorities successfully mapped 6,32,871 electors to themselves or their progeny, leaving 85,175 electors unmapped.
Scrutiny, Notices and Disposal of Claims
The subsequent verification mechanism prioritized unmapped electors as well as individuals whose official entries exhibited logical discrepancies. Officials issued a total of 2,18,588 notices during the dedicated notice window. Electoral authorities conducted formal hearings, inspected documentary evidence submitted by electors, and reviewed undertakings furnished by Booth Level Officers as part of the rigorous verification protocol. The claims and objections window, which spanned from July 21 to August 20, saw authorities receive 18,598 forms. Following this scrutiny, 8,803 electors were added while 1,924 names were removed from the draft roll, ultimately leaving the final tally roughly 1.91 lakh lower than the pre-SIR strength.
Appeals Mechanism and Service Electors Data
Provisions remain open for electors who may have grievances regarding the newly published roll. Any citizen dissatisfied with the final entries holds the right to file an appeal before the district magistrate within 15 days of publication. Should the outcome remain unsatisfactory, a further appeal can be escalated before the chief electoral officer within 30 days of the district magistrate's order. Alongside the general roll, authorities on Tuesday also published the final list for service electors, confirming that 5,552 service voters are currently enrolled in Arunachal Pradesh.
