Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared details of the hospital visit on social media platform X, where he wrote that Captain Smit Machhar exemplifies courage, responsibility, and profound care for human life. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the pilot commands full appreciation and admiration from both the people and the nation's leadership. He emphasized that the country takes immense pride in having individuals like Machhar as part of its team and story, representing the values of kindness, peace, and the preservation of human life that define the UAE.

The UAE leader's visit follows a video call on Friday between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Captain Smit Machhar. During their direct conversation, the pilot recounted the terrifying ordeal and explained how he maintained composure to prioritize passenger safety despite sustaining critical injuries. Prime Minister Modi lauded the captain for his remarkable resilience and dedication to duty, extending his best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery while Machhar continues his medical care in Dubai.
Cockpit Assault and a Rapid 17,000-Foot Plunge
The emergency occurred on Wednesday aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. While cruising at an altitude of 34,000 feet, the aircraft was thrown into chaos when the co-pilot attacked Captain Machhar inside the cockpit with a knife, inflicting serious physical injuries. Amid the violent struggle, the airliner transmitted emergency distress signals and initiated a steep, rapid descent of over 17,000 feet, descending abruptly from its cruising altitude.
Precision Emergency Diversion to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia
Despite being critically wounded and under extreme duress, Captain Machhar maintained command of the aircraft. He skillfully executed an emergency diversion toward Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. With 174 passengers onboard, including 27 children, Machhar guided the aircraft through severe turbulence and distress to execute a safe landing on the tarmac. His extraordinary composure preserved the lives of everyone on board, and he remains under close medical supervision in Dubai.
