The high-altitude incident followed days of relentless and heavy snowfall across the mountain range, which had already forced several climbing expeditions to halt their ascents and retreat. According to organizer Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, multiple climbing and rope-fixing teams had evacuated the steep mountain slopes last week after official weather warnings were disseminated. However, a few individuals and support staff reluctantly chose to remain behind at the base camp, hoping for a quick clearance in the weather. The relentless downpours and snow have blocked vital transport routes, forced local authorities to close off several key roads, and brought normal life to a virtual standstill in multiple districts.

In response to the deteriorating weather, tourism officials and the Department of Tourism have issued urgent alerts advising all trekkers, mountaineers, and travel agencies to immediately suspend their outdoor activities. This latest crisis comes on the heels of another devastating natural disaster just last month, when catastrophic flooding in Rasuwa claimed over 1,400 lives and left more than 5,000 people missing.
