Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu conducted an extensive inspection across the hill district of Dima Hasao on Saturday to examine academic standards, existing school infrastructure, and future development scope. The visit focused on evaluating operational institutions, including Maibang College, a PM SHRI secondary institution, and student accommodation facilities.
Evaluating Academic Progress at Maibang College
A central stop of the tour was Maibang College, an institution established in 1988 located in Maibang, the ancient capital of the Dimasa kingdom. The institution has long served as an educational hub for local youth. While it historically functioned with an Arts curriculum, the introduction of the Science stream last year broadened learning avenues for students throughout the hill belt.
Covering approximately 100 bighas of level land within the hilly terrain, the campus holds significant space for future structural and academic expansion. During his visit, the education minister held detailed discussions with the college principal and faculty members. The deliberation focused on daily academic routines, present campus resources, operational difficulties, and prospective upgrading roadmaps. Documenting his visit, Ranoj Pegu wrote on X regarding his review of institutional functioning and infrastructure progress at Maibang Degree College.
Review Meeting at PM SHRI School and Facility Checks
Following the college assessment, Pegu led a comprehensive review meeting at PM SHRI Maibang Higher Secondary School to evaluate educational development programs across Dima Hasao. The discussion centered on monitoring ongoing government welfare initiatives, raising learning standards, and resolving logistical challenges faced by academic institutions situated in the hill region.
As part of the tour, the minister also inspected the 50-bedded hostel and Kalachand High School to examine student living conditions and learning amenities. Officials evaluated existing boarding capacities, study environments, and classroom spaces to determine necessary structural enhancements and ensure better welfare provisions for students residing in the region.
