The Assam government has formally entered into six Memoranda of Understanding between Samagra Shiksha, Assam, and several leading organizations to seamlessly integrate artificial intelligence, modern technology, and innovative practices into school education across the state. This comprehensive digital push is designed to overhaul traditional classrooms and create a forward-looking learning environment for students throughout the region.
Empowering Teachers and Enhancing Foundational Skills
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, who was present at the formal signing ceremony, emphasized that these strategic partnerships will primarily focus on strengthening robust teacher training programs, boosting foundational literacy and numeracy, advancing digital skills, and fostering personalized learning. Additionally, the initiative aims to actively identify, enroll, and retain out-of-school adolescents across the state.
Targeted Collaborations with Leading Tech and Educational Bodies
Under a key collaboration with Google AI, educators will be equipped with advanced AI-powered educational tools, essential digital skills, and broader professional development opportunities. Meanwhile, the partnership involving IIT Madras and Bodhan AI aims to build deep AI proficiency among educators, with a concrete proposal to train approximately 1 lakh teachers teaching classes 6 to 12 by May 2027.
To further address foundational learning gaps, the collaboration with LEHS-Wadhwani AI seeks to strengthen early literacy through AI-enabled assessments that measure students’ reading fluency. Furthermore, the partnership between Samagra Shiksha, Assam, and Educate Girls is structured to support the critical identification, enrollment, and retention of out-of-school adolescents, with a special emphasis on young girls.
Promoting Personalized Learning and Creative Design Thinking
The MoU established with EkStep-AxL is set to promote personalized, AI-assisted learning models focused strictly on foundational literacy and numeracy. At the same time, the partnership with Canva Education will center on enhancing digital literacy, fostering creative expression, encouraging design thinking, and driving innovation among both teachers and students.
Concluding the rollout of these initiatives, Pegu noted that these wide-ranging collaborations mark a significant milestone toward building a technology-enabled, inclusive, and learner-centric educational ecosystem across Assam. The broader objective remains centered on empowering educators and substantially expanding learning pathways for students in every corner of the state.
