Toyota Kirloskar Motor is gearing up to strengthen its presence in the Indian hatchback market with the launch of the updated Glanza. The premium vehicle is scheduled to be officially introduced on October 14. Built on the foundation of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift, the updated car will bring notable changes across its exterior styling, cabin electronics, safety kit, and mechanical components. The outgoing Glanza model retails between Rs 6.73 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Owing to the inclusion of upgraded driver assistance systems and new mechanical underpinnings, the upcoming facelift is anticipated to carry a slight price premium, pushing its expected price range to approximately Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh.
Exterior Styling and Design Modifications
The refreshed hatchback will sport several cosmetic modifications on the outside to deliver a fresh road presence. Similar to the Baleno facelift, it is expected to feature a restyled front grille along with reworked front and rear bumpers. While the headlight assemblies and the signature boomerang-shaped LED DRLs will largely remain unchanged from the current model, Toyota will incorporate its distinct front grille pattern and brand badging to maintain a clear visual distinction from its Maruti Suzuki sibling.
Interior Enhancements and Modern Cabin Features
Inside the cabin, the overall structural layout of the dashboard will remain consistent with the current model, but overall refinement and material quality will see noticeable upgrades. The interior will introduce new seat upholstery alongside premium surface finishes. Among the key feature additions, the vehicle will offer ventilated front seats for enhanced driver comfort, accompanied by a ventilated wireless phone charger. The existing feature list will continue to include the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a head-up display (HUD), automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera system, and connected car features that allow remote operational controls.
Advanced Safety Package and ADAS Integration
Safety gets a major boost in the new iteration, with Toyota expected to equip the hatchback with Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). This will make it one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in its category. Furthermore, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) will be integrated into the instrument suite. Standard safety equipment will continue to offer 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and Hill Hold Assist. However, feature additions like a sunroof or a fully digital driver display are unlikely to be offered, as these elements were also excluded from the Baleno platform.
New Z12E Engine, Power Figures, and Fuel Economy
The most substantial mechanical overhaul comes under the hood. Toyota is replacing the existing 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit with a new Z12E 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This setup produces approximately 83 bhp of maximum power and 112 Nm of peak torque. Buyers will have the choice between a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). For fuel-conscious customers, a CNG variant generating roughly 70 bhp paired exclusively with a manual transmission will remain available. Fuel efficiency is set to improve across all configurations. Based on corresponding Baleno figures, the petrol manual version is projected to deliver around 23.80 kmpl, while the AMT option could reach 24.77 kmpl. The CNG variant is expected to offer an impressive 33.61 km/kg. While the slight reduction in cylinder count might show a minor difference during high-speed highway overtaking, the power output remains more than adequate for daily city commutes.
Market Competition and Official Launch Details
Upon its debut, the new Glanza facelift will compete directly against rival premium hatchbacks such as the Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, and Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Toyota's extensive service network and reputation for product reliability will serve as key selling points for prospective buyers. The official prices, variant breakup, and final technical specifications will be revealed during the launch event on October 14.
