A tragic incident has come to light from Kyota village under the jurisdiction of the Hinauta police station in Chhatarpur district. Around 1:00 am between Wednesday and Thursday, an old and dilapidated mud house collapsed, trapping a family underneath and resulting in the deaths of two minor sisters on the spot. The accident occurred while the family members were fast asleep inside the structure.
Two young sisters lose lives under debris
According to available details, the collapsed dwelling belonged to Lakkhu Kewat, a resident of Kyota village in the Hathonha panchayat. At the time of the mishap, his wife Hemant Kewat was resting inside alongside her two young daughters, two-month-old Himanshi Kewat and 13-year-old Rachna Kewat. The sudden cave-in of the mud walls and structural elements caused both children to be buried under the rubble, leading to their immediate deaths at the scene. Hemant Kewat also sustained severe injuries, particularly on her abdomen and legs. Local residents rushed to the spot, cleared the debris, and managed to rescue her.
Injured mother hospitalized as police investigate
Due to the severity of her injuries, Hemant Kewat was rushed to the Chhatarpur District Hospital for advanced medical care, where she was admitted last night and continues to receive treatment. Attending physicians have noted that her health condition is showing improvement while medical oversight remains ongoing. Immediately after receiving word of the emergency, the Hinauta police team arrived at the location, inspected the premises, and initiated a formal inquiry into the structural integrity and cause of the collapse. Arrangements were also being made to send the bodies of Himanshi and Rachna for post-mortem examinations in accordance with standard legal procedures.
State minister visits hospital and offers financial aid
Upon learning of the distressing event, Chandla constituency legislator and Madhya Pradesh State Minister Dilip Ahirwar visited the hospital to check on Hemant Kewat's recovery progress. He provided an immediate financial grant of 50,000 rupees to help cover medical expenses and immediate needs. This disaster has taken place amid a prolonged spell of heavy rainfall across the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, where moisture-weakened mud walls and fragile houses have been collapsing in multiple rural settlements in recent days.
