The Indian automotive industry registered remarkably solid commercial performance in September 2026, supported by robust customer interest and steady volume gains across major passenger vehicle manufacturers. Hyundai Motor India marked an all-time monthly sales milestone, while domestic utility major Mahindra & Mahindra and manufacturer JSW MG Motor India both reported substantial double-digit annualized expansion across passenger and electrified segments.
Hyundai Motor India Reaches Milestone Volumes
Hyundai Motor India closed September 2026 with overall sales volume reaching 77,916 units across domestic dispatches and overseas shipments. This tally comprised 57,166 units sold within the domestic Indian market alongside 20,750 units destined for export territories. When benchmarked against the volume achieved in September of the previous year, total dispatches reflected a 10.8 percent expansion. Domestic sales grew by 10.9 percent year-on-year, while export shipments climbed by 10.4 percent during the same monthly frame. The company identified this tally as its highest monthly volume in corporate operational history, surpassing the preceding high watermark achieved in July 2026.
Mahindra Surpasses 1.14 Lakh Deliveries on SUV Strength
Mahindra & Mahindra sustained strong upward business momentum throughout September, delivering aggregate automotive sales of 1,14,874 vehicles. This represents a 15 percent climb compared to volumes recorded during the identical timeframe last year. In the utility vehicle and SUV vertical, domestic deliveries accounted for 64,092 units, translating to a 14 percent annualized improvement. Concurrently, domestic commercial vehicle shipments totaled 30,420 units, reflecting a matching 14 percent expansion over previous year levels. The carmaker also stated that cumulative billing numbers for its Electric Origin SUV portfolio crossed the landmark figure of 1,00,000 units since commercial launch.
JSW MG Motor India Records 19% Wholesale Expansion
JSW MG Motor India posted double-digit dispatch growth during September 2026, delivering 8,018 wholesale units to its nationwide dealer footprint. This represents a 19 percent improvement over dealer billing numbers recorded in September of the preceding year. Positive market feedback across its portfolio supported these deliveries, with recently introduced iterations such as the MG Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV playing an active role in expanding volume. Dispatches of the MG Hector Tomahawk EV to dealer showrooms commenced during the period, with direct handover ceremonies to retail vehicle buyers now officially underway across regional touchpoints.
