Daily commuters on the Namo Bharat train network have received a major convenience upgrade with the rollout of dedicated trip passes. Designed specifically for passengers commuting between fixed stations every day, the initiative eliminates the repetitive need to purchase single-journey tickets or constantly replenish balances on National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC). Working professionals, business owners, and students travelling on fixed routes can now purchase multi-trip bundles in advance, making their daily travel seamless.
How the Trip Pass Mechanism Works
The trip pass structure is tailored around regular commuters who travel consistently between specific origin and destination points. Once a commuter loads a designated route pass onto their NCMC card, the automated system deducts one trip each time they commute along that specified corridor. For instance, an individual travelling daily between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram can pre-purchase their required number of journeys based on personal travel patterns. Notably, there is no restriction on daily frequency, allowing commuters to use the pass multiple times within the same day.
Flexible Options from 1 to 40 Trips
A wide range of choices has been introduced to cater to diverse commuting schedules. Passengers can purchase passes spanning from 1 to 40 trips, available for both standard and premium coach categories. Commuters can load these passes directly at dedicated counters situated near the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) gates across stations. In addition, travellers using the service receive a 10% discount on every journey. Under the NCMC loyalty programme, cardholders also earn one loyalty point for every 1 rupee spent.
Rules for Travelling Outside the Designated Route
The operational guidelines specify that a trip pass remains valid solely between the specific boarding and destination stations selected during purchase. If a passenger decides to travel to a different station outside the pre-selected corridor, the trip pass will not cover that stretch. Instead, standard fare for that particular journey is automatically deducted from the NCMC card's global wallet. Passengers can maintain a recharge balance of up to 2,000 rupees in this global wallet to ensure uninterrupted travel across alternate routes.
Significance for Rapid Rail Commuters
Around 1.1 lakh passengers currently commute on Namo Bharat trains on a daily basis. A substantial share of this ridership comprises regular commuters travelling back and forth between identical stations for work, business, or education. For this segment, the newly introduced trip pass simplifies the entire ticketing procedure, cuts down counter queues, and drastically reduces the frequent burden of manual card recharges.
