A Bangladeshi national who had been held for the past three years inside the holding facility at Purnia Central Jail in Bihar has escaped. The accused has been identified as Manna, son of Jamshed Jalak Sikandar Shah, a resident of the Aziz Nagar police station area in Narayanpur district, Bangladesh. According to information, Manna managed to break the iron rod of a window at the holding centre and slip out of the jail premises.
SSP Confirms FIR, Search Underway
SSP Dr Shaurya Suman said that a first information report has been registered at Khajanchi Haat police station in connection with the escape, and a search operation has been launched to trace the missing Bangladeshi prisoner. He added that the District Magistrate has constituted a team to investigate the incident. The team will look into exactly how Manna managed to escape from the holding centre inside the jail and who was responsible for the lapse. Police are examining every angle of the case.
Arrested In Supaul Back In 2023
Going back to the background of the case, Manna was caught by SSB personnel in the Bihpur area of Supaul district in 2023. At the time, it emerged that he had neither a passport nor a visa, nor any other valid document permitting him to enter India. On that basis, he was sent the same year, in 2023, from Supaul to the holding centre at Purnia Central Jail, where he had remained in custody ever since. It is also learnt that several other foreign prisoners besides Manna are lodged in the same holding centre at Purnia Central Jail, raising fresh questions about security there.
