A tragic disaster unfolded at the historic Ashok Dham Temple in Bihar's Lakhisarai district on the third Monday of the holy month of Sawan. Seven devotees lost their lives and nearly half a dozen were critically injured when a live electrical current in a utility pole touched off a panicked stampede among morning worshippers.
Sequence of the Incident
The tragedy occurred around 6:45 AM at the shrine complex, which is also known as the Indra Dambhaneshwar Mahadev Temple. Due to the auspicious third Monday of Sawan, thousands of devotees had gathered early in the morning, standing in long queues for the sacred Jalabhishek ritual. While worshippers waited in line, electricity leaked into a nearby pole. The sudden electric shock caused widespread panic, and as people rushed to escape, several devotees tripped and fell over each other in the ensuing crush.
Casualties and Medical Emergency
The sudden surge of electrical power and the subsequent crowd panic resulted in immediate casualties. Official details confirm that 7 devotees died from the accident. Approximately six other worshippers received severe injuries and were promptly evacuated to a local hospital, where medical staff are currently administering emergency treatment.
