A large food poisoning case has surfaced in Kritpura village under the Baikunthpur police station area of Bihar's Gopalganj district, where 10 children and 2 women from a single family, 12 people in all, suddenly fell ill after eating fensa, a dish made from milk. All of them developed vomiting and diarrhoea, prompting the family to rush them to hospital, where treatment is currently underway and their condition is reported to be improving.
Fensa was made to celebrate the birth of a calf
According to available information, a cow belonging to Anil Sahni had given birth to a calf at his home. To celebrate the occasion, the family prepared fensa using fresh milk and sent it over to Sipahi Sahni's house. On Wednesday night, the children and other family members ate the fensa, and within a short while everyone began falling ill, with vomiting and diarrhoea setting in. Ten children and two women of the family were badly affected.
12 people, including 10 children, admitted to hospital
As their condition worsened after eating the fensa, all the affected persons were first taken to the Baikunthpur Community Health Centre. After receiving initial treatment there, doctors referred all of them to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital in view of the seriousness of their condition. The children currently being treated include Priya Kumari, Simran Kumari, Priyanshu, Rishabh, Abhiraj, Monalisa, Ritik and Atul, among others. All the patients are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Doctor urges caution with milk-based dishes
Dr Pankaj Kumar, a physician at Sadar Hospital, said the condition of all the patients is now stable and improving. He said that in this season, people should be careful about consuming stale or unhygienic food, especially milk-based dishes such as fensa, since it significantly raises the risk of food poisoning. The doctor has appealed to the public to use milk and milk products immediately during the summer season, avoid eating them if there is any doubt, and pay special attention to cleanliness.
