Residents across Bihar, who have been enduring severe heat and humidity, have received a significant weather update. The monsoon has regained strength, leading to a complete shift in the state's weather patterns. Driven by moisture from the Bay of Bengal and active monsoon systems, the weather has turned favorable for widespread rainfall. The meteorological department has issued alerts for all 38 districts of the state for today, Sunday. Among these, 18 districts are under an orange alert for heavy rain, while the remaining 20 districts are placed under a yellow alert.
Orange Alert Districts Forecast Heavy Rain
According to the Meteorological Centre, various parts of the state are expected to witness heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms today. The 18 districts currently under an orange alert include West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Patna, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nawada, Nalanda, Begusarai, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Khagaria, Munger, Banka, and Bhagalpur. Officials have advised residents in these regions to exercise caution. During the rainfall, surface winds are expected to blow at speeds between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour, prompting authorities to urge people to stay in safe locations.
Heatwave Conditions Persist in Some Areas
While most of the state is anticipating relief through monsoon showers, heatwave conditions remain a concern in specific districts. The weather department has maintained a yellow alert for heatwaves in Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, and Aurangabad. Regarding temperatures, Saturday saw three districts recording temperatures exceeding 41 degrees Celsius. Kaimur remained the hottest at 41.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Buxar at 41.2 degrees and Sheikhpura at 41.1 degrees. Residents in these regions are advised to remain vigilant for the time being.
Weather Outlook for Patna
For the capital city of Patna, the weather is expected to remain mixed today. The sky will likely remain cloudy throughout the day, with chances of light drizzle in some areas and moderate to heavy showers in others. This rainfall is projected to bring down the city's temperature by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, providing relief from the blistering heat. However, due to high humidity levels, complete relief from the stifling sultriness remains unlikely in the immediate future.
Deficit and Future Outlook
The monsoon season in Bihar has had a sluggish start this year. Data from the weather bureau indicates that there has been 49% less rainfall than normal so far. While the expected rainfall for the season to date was 130.8 millimeters, only 66.3 millimeters has been recorded. However, the weather observed on Saturday, including heavy rain in Khagaria, Begusarai, and Banka, and light-to-moderate showers in Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, Bettiah, and Madhubani, marks a turning point. Meteorologists confirm that the monsoon system is now fully active, and favorable moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring substantial rainfall across most parts of the state over the next 3 to 4 days, potentially bridging the current water deficit.
