A shocking cyber fraud case has surfaced in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, where a young man lost thousands of rupees after falling for an alluring online scheme promising quick riches. Sanjeev Sahni, a resident of Sahbazpur under the Ahiapur police station limits, was promised Rs 8 lakh under the pretext of impregnating a woman. Tricked by the lucrative offer, fraudsters managed to siphon off Rs 27,000 from him in multiple installments before disappearing. Realizing he had been duped, the victim approached the local police to lodge an official complaint.
Fraud Initiated Through a Social Media Post
According to the details provided by the victim, Sanjeev Sahni came across a deceptive post while scrolling through Facebook a few days ago. The social media advertisement falsely claimed to pay Rs 8 lakh to anyone agreeing to impregnate a woman. The post contained a contact mobile number for interested candidates to reach out.
Enticed by the massive payout, Sahni dialed the given number. The caller identified himself as a representative of a company managing the process and assured him of the deal's legitimacy. The fraudster convincingly promised that the full sum of Rs 8 lakh would be transferred directly to his account once the agreed task was successfully executed.
Rs 27,000 Extorted in Three Installments
To extract money, the cyber criminals created a facade of administrative protocols. They demanded payments under various headers, including legal contract drafting, mandatory registration, and processing fees. Trusting the impostor, Sahni transferred a total of Rs 27,000 online across three separate installments.
However, despite receiving the payments, the fraudsters failed to provide any formal contract or document. When Sahni questioned the delay, the callers began leveling false allegations against him while demanding additional funds. Upon attempting to call the perpetrators back after becoming suspicious, Sahni found that they had stopped answering his calls altogether. It was at this point that he realized he had been victimized by an elaborate cyber fraud syndicate.
Police Investigation and Public Advisory
Following the disclosure of the incident, Sahni reported the entire ordeal to the Ahiapur police station and demanded strict legal action against the culprits. The police have registered the case and initiated a formal probe. The specialized cyber cell of the Muzaffarpur police is currently analyzing the call detail records and banking transactions associated with the suspect phone numbers and accounts.
In light of the incident, law enforcement authorities have issued a public warning urging citizens to exercise extreme caution on digital platforms. Police advised people to remain wary of viral social media posts offering easy money, unrealistic job promises, or suspicious high-yield incentives. Authorities emphasized that individuals should thoroughly verify the credentials of unknown entities before authorizing any online financial transactions.
