A trivial altercation over water spilled on a street escalated into a brutal violent conflict in East Champaran district of Bihar. The tragic incident unfolded late Wednesday evening in Jamuni Tola village under Jihuli panchayat within the Patahi police station jurisdiction of Motihari, where a minor dispute transformed into a fatal assault. Multiple sharp-weapon attacks during the altercation left three individuals seriously wounded, among whom a brother-in-law and sister-in-law succumbed to their injuries during treatment, sending shockwaves across the entire region.
Argument Over Spilled Water Escalates to Violence
According to local sources and statements from the relatives of the victims, the confrontation took place near the residence of Sanjay Singh in Jamuni Tola. Mohsin Akhtar was reportedly spilling water onto the street, which was objected to by local resident Sanjay Singh. What began as a prohibition against spilling water quickly degenerated into a fierce verbal exchange. The situation rapidly deteriorated as Sanjay Singh and his associates began assaulting Mohsin. When family members rushed to intervene, the opposing side launched a brutal attack using sharp weapons. This violent assault left Marina Khatoon (35), Jamil Akhtar (36), and Mohsin Akhtar (40) severely injured.
Two Victims Die During Hospital Treatment
Following the attack, chaos erupted at the scene, and with the assistance of villagers, the injured were rushed to the Patahi Primary Health Center in Bihar. Observing the critical condition of Marina Khatoon and Jamil Akhtar, attending doctors referred them to the Motihari Sadar Hospital after initial first aid. However, due to the severity of their wounds, both individuals passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The deceased persons were related to each other as brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Meanwhile, the condition of the third injured person, Mohsin Akhtar, is currently reported to be out of danger and stable.
Swift Police Action Leads to Three Arrests
Upon receiving information about the double murder, Patahi Station House Officer Baban Kumar promptly arrived at the location with a police contingent to take control of the situation. Recognizing the gravity of the matter, the police initiated rapid response raids and search operations. Authorities successfully apprehended the primary accused involved in the crime, identified as Sanjay Singh (son of Siya Ram Singh), Nagnarayan Singh (son of Sita Ram Singh), and Lakshminarayan Singh (son of the late Lagan Singh). All arrested individuals are residents of Jihuli village. The station house officer stated that raids are ongoing at potential hideouts to arrest other accomplices still at large. Given the prevailing tension in the village, a strong police force has been deployed as a precautionary measure while a thorough investigation into the entire matter continues.
