A deeply concerning incident exposing apparent proximity between law enforcement personnel and individuals accused of illicit liquor trade has surfaced in Bihar's East Champaran district. Police officers from the Pipra police station were seen celebrating the birthday of a listed liquor smuggling accused, directly feeding him cake and posing for photographs. After the visuals surfaced and spread rapidly across social media platforms, senior leadership in the district police establishment took swift notice and launched disciplinary proceedings.
Police Officers Caught Celebrating With Named Accused
The viral photographs showed Pipra Station House Officer Satish Kumar alongside Sub-Inspector Bipin Kumar attending the private birthday gathering of Bittu Kumar. The visual evidence captured both police officials sharing warm gestures, offering birthday cake to the accused smuggler, and posing comfortably alongside him. The sight of senior local law enforcement officers mingling and celebrating with a person accused of operating within the prohibited liquor trade immediately triggered widespread criticism regarding policing standards and local patronage.
Criminal Record and Prior Charges Against Bittu Kumar
The individual at the center of the controversy, Bittu Kumar, resides within the Pipra police station jurisdiction in East Champaran district and is the son of Dinesh Kumar Mishra. Official records show that he faces substantive criminal cases linked to the illicit liquor trade across multiple jurisdictions. In 2020, Gopalganj District Excise Police Station registered case crime number 167/20 against him. Furthermore, Pipra police station in East Champaran itself registered case crime number 304/24 against him. The fact that officers from the very same police station where charges were registered against him were seen treating him as an honored guest raised serious alarms about compromised field integrity.
Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat Orders Immediate Suspension
Following the public circulation of the images and initial verification, East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat intervened decisively. The district police chief placed both Pipra SHO Satish Kumar and Sub-Inspector Bipin Kumar under immediate suspension. Concurrently, a formal inquiry was instituted to ascertain the complete background of the event, including the exact location, timing, and whether any digital manipulation occurred with the photographic evidence. Departmental authorities indicated that once the final inquiry findings are formally established, further punitive departmental proceedings will follow against the suspended officers.
