A harrowing incident of domestic violence unfolded in Sona Gopalpur village, located on the outskirts of Patna in Bihar, on Thursday. During a heated domestic dispute, an intoxicated young man launched a brutal attack on his mother and mother-in-law. Both women sustained severe injuries during the assault and collapsed at the scene. The sudden violence triggered widespread panic across the locality, prompting neighbors and local residents to rush to the victims' aid and alert law enforcement agencies.
Emergency Hospitalization and Referral to PMCH
Following the attack, alarmed neighbors swiftly gathered at the residence and transported the two bleeding women to Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH) for urgent medical care. Attending medical staff administered primary treatment; however, given the severity of the trauma inflicted on both victims, doctors determined that specialized care was required. Consequently, after stabilizing them initially, the hospital management referred both women to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for advanced emergency treatment. Medical professionals at PMCH reported that both victims remain in critical condition and are undergoing intensive monitoring.
Police Standoff and Rescue of Four-Year-Old Child
Immediately after committing the assault, the suspect, identified as Rajpal Mahto, grabbed his four-year-old daughter and barricaded himself inside the family home. Locking the door from the inside, he refused to come out, raising intense anxiety among onlookers regarding the child's safety. Upon receiving an emergency dispatch, a police contingent from the Gopalpur police station rushed to the spot and immediately cordoned off the entire property. After initial negotiation attempts failed to yield results, officers executed a tactical rescue operation. Police personnel managed to gain secure entry into the house, safely rescued the young girl without injury, and took Rajpal Mahto into custody.
Father Details Addiction and Close Escape
Preliminary investigations indicate that chronic drug abuse combined with unresolved family disputes triggered the violent outburst. The suspect's father, Badri Mahto, recounted the terrifying sequence of events, stating that his son has long suffered from severe substance addiction and frequently initiated conflicts within the household. On Thursday, Rajpal arrived home heavily intoxicated and engaged in an argument that escalated rapidly. As his rage intensified, he turned violently upon his mother and mother-in-law. Badri Mahto added that when he and Rajpal's wife attempted to intervene, the suspect aggressively charged at them as well. Both managed to flee the house in time to save their lives, leaving the two senior women vulnerable to the assault.
Official Police Statement and Ongoing Investigation
Confirming the details of the police intervention, Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ranjan Kumar stated that law enforcement received urgent reports regarding the severe assault on two women in Sona Gopalpur village, along with information that the suspect had barricaded himself inside with his minor daughter. SDPO Ranjan Kumar confirmed that a police team dispatched to the location launched a successful rescue operation, safely retrieving the four-year-old child and taking Rajpal Mahto into police custody. Authorities are currently interrogating the suspect and conducting a thorough investigation to establish the exact sequence of events, determine the underlying motives, and recover the weapon used during the attack.
