In a significant political development in Bihar, the Jan Suraaj Party has replaced its candidate for the Tirhut Teachers MLC election, naming Shyam Nandan Kumar Yadav as the new nominee in place of the previous contender. This change was implemented after the former candidate made objectionable remarks regarding teachers during a party meeting in Muzaffarpur, statements that the organization outright refused to tolerate. Announcing the new candidate, the party leadership moved swiftly to address the fallout from the controversial statements.
The Background of the Candidate Replacement
State President Manoj Bharti explained that the decision to swap candidates was made based on messages and feedback received directly from grassroots party workers. He noted that although the party had recently released its second list of three candidates, local members strongly advocated for Shyam Nandan Kumar Yadav. Highlighting his credentials, Bharti pointed out that Yadav's younger brother, Pramod Yadav, was posthumously awarded a gallantry medal after making the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War. Furthermore, Yadav is associated with multiple educational institutions and serves as a principal, prompting the party to formally honor and field him.
Response from the New Nominee
Following his nomination, Shyam Nandan Yadav expressed deep gratitude to Prashant Kishor, the state president, and all senior party members. He pledged to live up to the expectations reposed in him by working shoulder-to-shoulder with the organization. Reflecting on his family's service to the nation, Yadav shared that out of four brothers, three served in the Indian Armed Forces, with one paying the ultimate price for the country on the battlefield.
Party Leadership Defends the Decision
Senior party leader Rambali Curchanshi defended the move by emphasizing that the organization operates on democratic principles unlike conventional political outfits. He stated that the party utilizes a collective approach focused on identifying capable individuals and will not hesitate to make changes whenever a better alternative is warranted. Curchanshi made it clear that the remarks made by Bhushan Jha during the Muzaffarpur gathering insulted teachers and crossed a red line for the movement.
National Spokesperson Kumar Jan Suraaj added that the previous candidate desired to contest the election independently and had complained during the meeting about not being allowed to express his views fully. During that same gathering, he uttered the controversial phrase regarding teachers being solely concerned with filling their stomachs. The party maintained that any derogatory generalization about graduate teachers and educators is completely unacceptable under its foundational ethos.
