A service pistol has blown the lid off an alleged cover-up inside Bihar's police force. Chandan Kumar, a suspended sub-inspector who was posted at Safiyasarai police station in Munger, had tried to pass off his wife Madhu Kumari's death as suicide, but a forensic and ballistic report has now dismantled his version of events.
Father Alleged Murder From Day One
Madhu Kumari died of a gunshot wound on the evening of 11 April. Immediately after her death, Chandan Kumar told police his wife had died by suicide, and the initial investigation followed that line. However, her father Ranjeet Kumar refused to accept the claim from the very beginning. He said his daughter had been continuously harassed since her marriage and alleged that she was murdered, insisting the suicide story was fabricated to hide the truth.
Postmortem Findings Raised Doubts
The case took a turn when a team of doctors closely examined the entry and exit points of the bullet during the postmortem. The medical board, comprising Dr. Raman, Dr. Rupesh and Dr. Shashank, noted in its report that the trajectory of the bullet did not match the typical pattern seen in suicide cases, raising the possibility of murder. This finding pushed the police to pursue the investigation on a more scientific footing.
FSL and Ballistic Report Confirm Murder
Following the medical board's observations, the case was referred to the Forensic Science Laboratory and ballistic experts. The investigation established that Madhu Kumari had not shot herself. Instead, she was killed with the same service pistol that the accused sub-inspector, Chandan Kumar, used while on duty. That single report shattered the suicide narrative he had built and resolved the central mystery of the high-profile case.
SP Says Science Doesn't Let Lies Survive
Munger Superintendent of Police Syed Imran Masood said the scientific investigation and ballistic report had made it clear that Chandan Kumar had murdered his wife, Madhu Kumari. "No matter who the culprit is, lies don't survive for long in front of scientific evidence," he said. According to the SP, the accused sub-inspector remains suspended and is currently lodged in jail under judicial custody, with legal action underway against him on charges of murder and dowry harassment.
A Lesson for the Force Itself
The case has drawn attention because the accused was himself a serving police officer who allegedly used his uniform and government-issued weapon in an attempt to cover up the crime. The SP added that the first duty of the police is to bring out the truth, and in this case, scientific evidence ensured exactly that. The episode is also a reminder that a badge offers no protection from a forensic trail once investigators follow the evidence.
