Police in Patna have busted an organised gang that preyed on jobless youths by promising them bank employment and rigged results in banking examinations. A joint raid by Rupaspur police station and the STF led to the arrest of five sharp operators linked to the racket. The accused have been identified as Praveen Chand, Karn Kumar, Raj Kumar, Amit Chaudhary and Manoj Kumar.
A large haul of incriminating material was recovered from the accused. The seizure includes 22 blank cheques, marksheets belonging to various candidates, admit cards and several important documents. These papers point to just how many young people the gang had drawn into its web.
Operation Run From a Vijay Nagar Flat
The entire network was being run out of a flat in Patna's Vijay Nagar area. Members of the gang extracted hefty sums from unemployed youths by assuring them of fixed results in banking exams and guaranteed bank jobs. Early investigation has also turned up several significant leads tied to a conspiracy to enable malpractice in banking examinations.
Gang Was Active for a Long Time
ASP Shivam Dhakad said the gang had been active for a long stretch and targeted youths desperately hunting for jobs. Acting on a tip-off, police carried out a raid and exposed the operation. A case has been registered at Rupaspur police station, and police are now probing the remaining members and the full reach of the network.
Probe On Into Number of Victims
ASP Shivam Dhakad added that efforts are under way to determine how many candidates have fallen victim to the fraud so far and how much money was collected from them. Police have urged young people not to trust any individual or organisation that claims it can arrange jobs or fix a competitive exam without proper verification, and to immediately inform police if anyone offers such temptations.
