The Purnia District Administration, working in close collaboration with the Purnia District Auto Toto Association, has introduced a comprehensive color-coding structure along with designated routes for all Totos and Autos operating across the city. Under this new mandate, three-wheeler commercial passenger vehicles are permitted to commute strictly along assigned transit corridors based on their specific allocated colors and registration marks.
Addressing Safety Concerns and Curbing Urban Crime
The administrative intervention comes in the backdrop of mounting complaints over recent months regarding misbehavior by certain Auto and Toto operators, as well as recurring criminal offenses targeting passengers in Purnia. These incidents had created a growing sense of vulnerability among daily commuters relying on public transport. To restore confidence and establish strict accountability, local authorities joined hands with the transit union to execute a coordinated strategy aimed at eliminating unregulated vehicle movements and shielding passengers from potential harassment.
15-Day Drive Active at Indira Gandhi Stadium
Implementation of the new vehicle identification regime has been progressing rapidly on the ground. For the past 15 days, a dedicated verification and marking drive has been underway at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Purnia city. During this process, official color strips and unique identification numbers are being painted directly onto each Auto and Toto. By linking each vehicle's physical color and serial marker to a specific geographical route, traffic officials and commuters can easily verify whether a vehicle is operating within its legally permitted jurisdiction.
Four Color Zones and Municipal Transport Boundaries
Under the structured distribution, Totos are being classified into four distinct color codes: Green, Yellow, Red, and Blue, with each vehicle carrying an assigned serial number. Elaborating on the initiative, Jahangir Alam alias Laddu, President of the Purnia District Auto Toto Association, highlighted that the measure was essential to curb driver arbitrariness and prevent passenger grievances. As part of this route allocation, vehicles authorized to operate within the Purnia Municipal Corporation urban area are being issued Red color coding along with matching route numbers.
Driver Association and Operators Welcome Systematic Shift
The operational restructuring has received encouraging feedback from local drivers participating in the registration camp. Operators present at Indira Gandhi Stadium for color coding, including Ramesh Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Pankaj Kumar, Ankit Kumar, and Dinesh Kumar, expressed optimism about the new policy. Noting that such a systematically organized route system is being implemented in Purnia for the first time, one driver remarked, "This framework will effectively curb crime and enable passengers to travel comfortably without safety concerns."
