A large-scale nationwide agitation is being planned by the Cockroach Janata Party against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This protest campaign is scheduled to take place across the country, including the national capital Delhi. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has come forward with a significant statement regarding this movement.

On Sunday, Sonam Wangchuk officially endorsed the proposed protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party, set for October 2, targeting the Chief Election Commissioner. Wangchuk stated that any sincere effort aimed at enhancing accountability and reforming the electoral mechanism within the country deserves strong backing. While extending his support, he clarified that he might not personally be present at the protest site in person during the demonstration.
Empowering Independent Movements
Elaborating on his stance, Wangchuk noted that his objective behind supporting such civic movements is to ensure they grow and sustain themselves on their own momentum. He expressed happiness over the fact that numerous other individuals have now stepped forward to address this issue. Consequently, he voiced hope that his active involvement or personal presence would not be required in this matter concerning the Chief Election Commissioner.

Wangchuk underscored that the electoral process stands as one of the most critical foundational requirements for any democratic nation. He stressed that necessary improvements must be continuously implemented. The activist also asserted that commitments made by governing authorities must be honored without delay. Bringing attention to past assurances given regarding the region of Ladakh, Wangchuk pointed out that promises made to the public must be fulfilled, specifically mentioning the long-pending demand to bring Ladakh under the sixth schedule.

As part of its ongoing campaign demanding greater institutional accountability from the election body, the Cockroach Janata Party has announced kickstarting widespread protests starting October 2 in major metropolitan areas such as Delhi and Mumbai. Concurrently, various opposition political outfits have also been pressing for action against the Chief Election Commissioner over disputes surrounding the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Meanwhile, amid these controversies and accountability questions, the Election Commission convened a crucial high-level meeting where several major decisions were finalized.
