High-voltage turmoil hit the campus of Lovely Professional University located on the Jalandhar-Phagwara border late at night when thousands of students poured out into the streets. Unrest rapidly grew over allegations concerning an assault on a resident female student inside the premises. Enraged youths overwhelmed internal security barricades and staged demonstrations directly atop decommissioned military hardware displayed on campus, including an Indian Air Force MiG-23 fighter aircraft and army tanks.
Demonstrators Scale Fighter Jet and Damage Campus Assets
The nocturnal protest swiftly turned aggressive as massive crowds gathered near the residential sector of the university. Breaching standard security perimeters, hundreds of students climbed onto the elevated structures of the MiG-23 jet and military tanks to shout slogans against the university administration. Visuals emerging from the scene showed dense groups of youths demonstrating across central pathways.
The agitation also led to notable destruction of campus property. Window panes were shattered, flower pots smashed, and localized fires were reported in sections of university infrastructure. Furthermore, several retail kiosks operating within the residential zone suffered physical damage as the university administration struggled to restore order during the early hours.
Student Grievances and Official Police Response
Trouble escalated around 1 AM near the women's hostel area. Demonstrating students alleged that an incident occurred on September 24 involving a worker or plumber engaged in construction activity inside the hostel facilities. Protesters claimed that the affected student had reported the matter to the hostel warden, but inaction on the part of the authorities triggered widespread anger among the student body.
Police contingents were deployed to contain the situation. Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora stated that initial findings pointed toward unverified rumors stoking the unrest. He mentioned, "We spoke to the students who had grievances with LPU administration, and the situation is now under control." Subsequently, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla confirmed that law enforcement had officially documented the student's statement. He noted, "We have now obtained the statement and registered a case."
Lovely Professional University Vice Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu also addressed the developments, asserting that the police filed an FIR based on allegations and that the administration will render full cooperation to investigators. As part of the clarification, Dr. Gulati shared a video statement featuring three female students residing in Room 504 of Girls Hostel 3. In the recording, the residents stated that no assault had taken place in their room or against them, contradicting social media reports. The students requested fellow peers and investigating officers to cease disturbing them under the pretext of inquiries, adding that they would promptly inform their parents if any untoward incident ever occurred.
