A fierce gang war erupted between two armed groups over the illegal narcotics trade at Madarpur Chowk, located under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station in Hajipur, Bihar. The confrontation originated from a dispute surrounding the delivery of a fresh consignment of smack, an attempt by rival factions to gain exclusive control over the illicit supply, and unsettled past financial transactions. What initially began as a heated verbal altercation quickly escalated into physical assault, which subsequently escalated into an unrestricted exchange of gunfire between the two clashing sides.
Shootout Ignited by Narcotics Delivery and Financial Dispute
During the violent confrontation, approximately half a dozen rounds of bullets were fired from both sides, creating widespread panic throughout the commercial locality. Two individuals belonging to the clashing factions sustained bullet wounds in the shootout, while a third youth suffered severe injuries during the physical brawl that preceded the firing. Following the incident, all three injured persons were hastily transported to the nearby Sadar Hospital with the help of local residents, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Police Seizures and Custodial Interrogation of Suspects
Upon receiving prompt information regarding the gunfire, a heavy police contingent from the Sadar police station rushed to the scene at Madarpur Chowk and secured the area. Law enforcement officers immediately cordoned off the crime spot to commence forensic and physical evidence gathering. During the initial search of the site, officers recovered multiple empty cartridge shells along with one firearm. Taking swift action, the police took three suspects into custody from the area, who are presently being interrogated at an undisclosed location regarding their involvement in the gang warfare.
Prior Explosive Attack Targeted Victim's Residence
Police investigations have also uncovered a significant prior history involving one of the victims. Ajay Mishra, who sustained bullet injuries during the recent shooting, had previously been targeted in a deadly explosive attack at his residence last month. During that earlier incident, a bomb was hurled at his home, but he managed a narrow escape without sustaining physical harm. Investigators are now scrutinizing whether the previous bombing and the latest shootout at Madarpur Chowk are interconnected events stemming from an ongoing vendetta between rival drug syndicates.
Forensic Investigation and Legal Proceedings Initiated
Providing details about the ongoing investigation, Hajipur SP Shubhank Mishra stated that a specialized team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was summoned to the crime scene to systematically collect scientific and forensic evidence. According to SP Shubhank Mishra, formal First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered based on complaints submitted by both involved factions, and further legal action is being pursued strictly in accordance with statutory provisions. This high-profile shootout linked to the burgeoning illicit drug trade has brought renewed focus on regional law enforcement and security measures in the district.
