Renowned writer and columnist Twinkle Khanna has reacted in her signature witty style to the aggressive food safety campaign led by Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and the sweeping raids conducted across the state. In her recent Mrs. Funnybones column, she poked fun at the ongoing crackdown on the food business and the widespread discussions surrounding it. Drawing inspiration from the raids, she humorously noted that she searched her own kitchen and stumbled upon an old packet of royal spice whose expiry date jokingly dated back to the Mughal Empire. Voicing deep concern over adulterated food items, she revealed that she and her mother, veteran actress Dimple Kapadia, have resorted to making pure paneer right at home.
A Friendly Competition Between Twinkle and Dimple
Twinkle Khanna shared in her column how a lively culinary competition has sparked between her and Dimple Kapadia regarding homemade paneer. Ever since massive scandals involving fake paneer came to light, both mother and daughter have been preparing the cheese independently in their respective kitchens. A lighthearted rivalry has now brewed between them over whose paneer tastes better, given that one litre of milk yields 250 grams of paneer at Dimple Kapadia's house compared to just 180 grams at Twinkle's place. She jokingly expressed fear that her mother might soon interrogate her about whose paneer is whiter, leading her to humorously contemplate whether she should start adding detergent to her own batch. She added that this notion is not as far-fetched as it sounds, pointing out a recent news report from Nalanda, Bihar, where a student fell ill because detergent was mistakenly used instead of salt.
FDA Raids and the Changing Color of Budhi Ke Bal
Discussing the sweeping administrative actions, Twinkle drew a parallel with the pink cotton candy known as budhi ke bal sold at carnivals during her childhood. She noted that while the sweet treat used to be vibrant pink, its shade has now drastically changed. She quipped that the color now resembles the roots of her own hair visible between touch-ups, making it truly live up to its name. According to reports, this transformation in cotton candy is cheekily attributed to Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who has carried out inspections at over 3,000 locations across the state. The rigorous raids have forced numerous restaurants, including Dominos, to shut their doors, prompting the writer to remark that wherever Mundhe goes, heads roll. She even bestowed upon him a playful new moniker, calling him Mundhe's Martini.
Past Memories and Candid Revelations
Aside from her sharp socio-culinary commentary, Twinkle Khanna recently made headlines for recalling an amusing incident from the past. She shared a throwback anecdote from the sets of Mela, recounting that she was so engrossed in thinking about her husband Akshay Kumar that co-star Aamir Khan was practically ready to slap her in frustration. Although Aamir Khan later dismissed the claim with astonishment, asking when he ever did such a thing, Twinkle maintained that he had merely pulled a face. In another previous column, Twinkle also reflected on the 26-year-old film that marked her final acting project before she permanently stepped away from the film industry, narrating the story in her own words.
