Actor Vicky Kaushal is taking on his most demanding physical role yet, preparing to play Bhagwan Parashuram in filmmaker Amar Kaushik's upcoming mythological project Mahavatar. After stunning audiences with his physical shift in Chhaava, the actor is setting his sights on an even larger target: gaining more than 25 kg to push his weight past the 100 kg mark. With principal photography scheduled to commence in December, Kaushal will dedicate a concentrated three-month preparation period starting in September to completely reshape his body.
Embodied Strength for a Mythological Warrior Sage
Ancient scriptures and mythological texts portray Bhagwan Parashuram as a warrior sage of extraordinary stature, featuring a broad chest, massive build, and immense physical power. To accurately capture this iconic figure on screen, Kaushal must build a significantly bulkier and more muscular physical frame than any of his previous cinematic portrayals. The physical demands of this role necessitate a complete restructuring of his physique to reflect the commanding presence described in traditional narratives.
Surpassing Previous Physical Milestones After Chhaava
This new fitness endeavor comes on the heels of Kaushal's acclaimed portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the film Chhaava. For that historical role, the actor successfully increased his body mass from approximately 80 kg to 105 kg. However, experts and trainers consider his upcoming preparation for Mahavatar to be an even greater physical hurdle. Achieving the required muscularity within a tight three-month timeline presents a formidable challenge that demands absolute discipline.
Expert Guidance for a Three-Month Training Schedule
To achieve this massive weight shift safely and effectively, Kaushal is reuniting with celebrity fitness coach Tejas Lalwani, who previously led his physical transformation for Chhaava. Alongside Lalwani, nutritionist Alkesh Sharotri will oversee every detail of the actor's daily meal structure. Together, the training team has mapped out a strict, science-backed schedule designed to maximize muscle hypertrophy while maintaining optimal health during the three-month transformation window leading into the December shoot.
Heavy Strength Training and Surplus Nutritional Strategy
The workout routine created by Tejas Lalwani centers around heavy multi-joint compound movements, specifically targeting key exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench presses, and pull-ups. The strength program will follow progressive overload principles, systematically increasing weights and repetition counts over time. Simultaneously, nutritionist Alkesh Sharotri has revamped Kaushal's daily meal plan to include a caloric surplus of 250 to 500 additional calories per day. This extra energy will directly support the synthesis of new muscle tissue, supported by a heavy emphasis on protein sources, nuts, dairy products, and nutrient-dense whole grains.
Prioritizing Sleep and Rest Protocols for Muscle Growth
Beyond intense workouts and calibrated nutrition, the preparation strategy places equal emphasis on proper physical recovery. According to the planned protocol, Kaushal will strictly adhere to at least eight hours of sound sleep every night to facilitate muscle repair. Furthermore, the routine incorporates a mandatory rest window of approximately 48 hours for each specific muscle group before it is targeted again in training, ensuring total recovery and preventing overtraining during this intense physical phase.
