A critical missing link between western Uttar Pradesh's two primary highway arterial networks is moving toward ground reality with the awarding of civil works for the Jewar Link Expressway. Spanning a total length of 74.4 kilometres, this greenfield corridor will directly stitch together the Ganga Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway. Designed to offer swift transit to the upcoming Noida International Airport, the project has set a targeted delivery deadline of three years to make the entire stretch operational.
Contract Details and Execution Plan
Civil engineering major Afcons Infrastructure Limited has been awarded the development mandate for a 24.5-kilometre segment that falls within the jurisdiction of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority sanctioned the engineering tender at an estimated value of approximately Rs 2,086 crore. The remaining sections of the corridor will be built by another contracting firm. S. Paramasivan, Managing Director of the infrastructure company, stated that full preparations are underway to deliver the assigned stretch within the stipulated three-year timeframe.
Alignment and Regional Transit Flow
The access-controlled route takes off from the Syana pocket of Bulandshahr district, where it establishes an interchange with the Ganga Expressway. Advancing southwest across the planned industrial zones of YEIDA, the highway terminates near the proposed Film City in Sector 21, formally merging into the existing Yamuna Expressway. This layout creates an uninterrupted bypass, sparing long-distance commercial and private vehicular traffic from traversing congested interior district roads across western districts.
Corridor Specifications and Future Expansion
Engineered as an access-controlled greenfield highway, the corridor will initially open as a six-lane wide roadway. The structural blueprint accommodates future capacity upgrades, allowing the carriageway to be widened to eight lanes as commuter traffic steadily scales up over the coming decades. With access strictly regulated through designated entry and exit ramps, vehicles can maintain sustained cruising speeds without friction from cross-traffic or local roadside hindrances.
Catalyst for Noida International Airport
The strategic justification for the link corridor centres on regional access to Noida International Airport in Jewar. Commuters and logistics fleets travelling from Yamuna City, Greater Noida, and nearby manufacturing zones will gain direct arterial access to the aviation hub. Furthermore, long-distance passengers descending from the Ganga Expressway corridor will be able to reach the passenger terminals directly without navigating local urban bypasses.
Land Procurement Progress
Site clearance and property acquisition for the project have crossed major administrative milestones. Approximately 92 percent of the required acreage within the YEIDA portion has already been successfully acquired by the authority. YEIDA Chief Executive Officer RK Singh confirmed that active consultations remain underway with local landholders to procure the residual land parcels expeditiously, ensuring unobstructed civil construction across the entire right of way.
