Women across the Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh are currently being provided with complimentary training sessions focused on preparing balanced and healthy meals. The primary goal of this initiative is to educate women on how to utilize local millets and readily available household ingredients to create wholesome dishes. Additionally, the program seeks to channel vital nutrition information directly to children and their parents through the dedicated efforts of anganwadi workers, ensuring proper dietary habits are formed from an early age.
Specialized Training for Anganwadi Workers
Mamta Tripathi, a home science expert at the Deendayal Research Institute Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Gopalgram, shared that the training program focuses on teaching anganwadi workers the art of crafting nutritious meals. A major emphasis is placed on developing wholesome food options specifically suited for young children. She pointed out that proper nutrition is foundational for the health and overall growth of children who visit anganwadi centers. Consequently, workers are being instructed on how everyday grains and food items easily found around the house can be transformed into delicious and nutritious meals for children.
Two-Day Program Featuring Theory and Practical Sessions
According to Mamta Tripathi, the training spans a duration of two days. On the opening day, women are given essential theoretical knowledge regarding balanced diets, learning which vital nutrients exist naturally within various grains and what precautions to observe while cooking for children. The second day transitions into a practical workshop where different nutritious dishes are prepared on-site. The participating women actively cook these food items themselves, gaining hands-on culinary experience that they can subsequently apply both within their own households and at their respective anganwadi centers.
Introducing Diversity Into Children Diets
Special focus is directed toward the incorporation of millets throughout the training sessions. Women are being taught how a variety of delicious and healthy recipes can be derived from coarse grains, alongside learning diverse methods to integrate these options into a child's daily meals. Mamta Tripathi noted that nutritious food items can even be whipped up using flattened rice or poha. By blending millets and other readily available kitchen ingredients, caregivers can create distinct dishes that introduce much-needed diversity to regular meals while delivering essential nutrients to growing children.
Balanced Diets Fuel Physical and Mental Growth
Discussions during the training also cover the specific dietary requirements of children attending anganwadi centers. Women are being instructed to provide meals containing nutrients tailored precisely to each child's age and developmental needs. A balanced diet is critical for achieving robust physical growth and sharp mental development in children, as wholesome food directly supports learning capabilities and everyday activities. Because of this, parents are strongly encouraged to pay closer attention to the daily eating habits and nutritional intake of their children.
