A routine domestic disagreement over a smartphone took a devastating turn in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh, leaving a family shattered. In the Kailash Vihar locality falling under the Darri police station limits, a 15-year-old girl, identified as Sonia Qureshi, took her own life after her mother hid the family mobile phone to halt a growing quarrel between siblings. The tragic loss of the Class 9 student has cast a pall of gloom over the entire neighborhood.
Sibling Spat Over Smartphone Usage
The tragedy began unfolding at the family residence in Kailash Vihar when Sonia Qureshi and her brother entered into a dispute regarding the use of the mobile handset. Both siblings wanted access to the device at the same time, leading to arguments over whose turn it was. Within minutes, the petty sibling disagreement escalated into an intense and loud confrontation inside the house.
Mother Intervenes and Withholds the Device
Alarmed by the rising tempers between her children, the mother stepped in to restore calm. In an attempt to pacify both sides and eliminate the immediate trigger of the quarrel, she picked up the disputed phone and placed it in hiding. She firmly told both children that the gadget was the root cause of their frequent fighting, declaring that neither of them would be permitted to use the mobile phone any longer.
Severe Reaction and Fatal Consequence
The mother's decision to confiscate the phone triggered intense distress and fury in the 15-year-old teenager. Strongly resenting the confiscation and unable to accept the restriction, Sonia walked away from the room and entered the bathroom. Overwhelmed by anger, she locked herself inside and ended her life by hanging. Her family members discovered the tragedy shortly after, plunging the entire household into despair.
Police Investigation Underway
The discovery of the young girl's body sparked panic and grief within the Kailash Vihar community. Local authorities were immediately informed, prompting a team from the Darri police station to arrive at the residence without delay. Law enforcement officials registered an accidental death case, initiated statutory inquest formalities, and launched a comprehensive inquiry into the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
