Laojun Mountain, a renowned scenic spot in China's Henan province, recently made headlines by offering a unique one-month job titled Cloudscape Observer. The position offered a generous payout of 60,000 Yuan, equivalent to approximately 9 lakh Indian Rupees, along with fully covered lodging and food expenses. Designed for observing and capturing the majestic sea of clouds from the mountain summit, the role quickly captured global attention as a dream job where workers could wake up to nature instead of morning alarms.
Li Sichen Outperforms 3500 Applicants for the Unique Role
Following the public job announcement, internet users expressed immense enthusiasm for the post, with over 3,500 candidates submitting their applications within just a single week. Despite intense competition from seasoned professional photographers, 23-year-old vlogger Li Sichen successfully landed the position. Holding a degree in e-commerce, Li creates content under the social media handle @xiaozao. His impressive video creation skills stood out to the selection team, earning him the distinction of becoming the very first official Cloudscape Observer at Laojun Mountain.
Demanding Schedule, Drone Skills, and Unpredictable Mountain Weather
While the role appeared serene on paper, fulfilling the contract required rigorous effort and technical adaptability. Li Sichen began his workday at 5:00 AM every morning, ensuring cameras and tripods were set up before dawn. His daily routine involved filming evolving cloud structures, vibrant sunrises, changing sunlight across mountain slopes, and diverse scenic angles until dusk.
To deliver high-quality content, Li had to rapidly master various visual production techniques, including drone navigation, video editing, color grading, and framing. Navigating the mountain's volatile weather conditions posed the greatest obstacle, requiring him to operate equipment smoothly despite sudden shifts in fog, temperature, and wind.
Gaining 6000 Social Media Followers while Searching for Full-Time Work
Upon completing the one-month tenure, Li Sichen not only earned his promised compensation but also expanded his online presence, gaining over 6,000 new followers on his personal social media account. Despite his newfound digital popularity and successful stint on the peak, Li remains practical about his career trajectory. He is currently seeking a regular full-time job while continuing his social media activities on a part-time basis.
