A severe crime involving abduction, extortion, and armed intimidation has been uncovered in the Valivali Naka locality of Badlapur West, situated in Maharashtra's Thane district. Bhim Singh Kharwat, the proprietor of Bhairav Jewellers, was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint following a dispute concerning pledged gold ornaments that had been sold. To secure the store owner's release, the perpetrators coerced his wife into relinquishing 79 grams of gold jewelry. When the merchant subsequently prepared to report the crime, the suspects launched a retaliatory attack, vandalizing the commercial establishment to instill fear.
Gunpoint Abduction in Badlapur and Extortion of 79 Grams of Gold
The sequence of violent incidents began at Bhairav Jewellers, located at Valivali Naka in Badlapur West. According to details established in the case, on August 15, suspects identified as Akshay Bhopi and Yuvraj Bhopi, accompanied by several accomplices, arrived at the shop and abducted Bhim Singh Kharwat. The victim was forcibly transported to the Eranjad locality, where the assailants brandished a firearm to threaten his life. Demanding ransom for his release, the abductors targeted the shop where Kharwat's wife was present, illegally seizing 79 grams of gold jewelry before releasing the owner.
Vandalism and Intimidation Following Police Complaint Preparation
Following the traumatic abduction and robbery, merchant Bhim Singh Kharwat initiated steps to lodge a formal complaint with law enforcement. Upon learning of the imminent legal action, primary suspect Akshay Bhopi allegedly organized a secondary assault to intimidate the victim. On August 25, a group of local miscreants dispatched to Bhairav Jewellers entered the premises while Kharwat was present and carried out extensive vandalism. The violent destruction, intended to create widespread terror in the commercial district, was fully recorded on the store's installed closed-circuit television cameras.
Root Cause: Disagreements Over Pledged Gold Ornaments
Investigative findings indicate that the core motivation behind the criminal action was anger over mortgaged property. The accused were incensed after discovering that Bhim Singh Kharwat, operating as Bhairav Jewellers, had sold gold items that had been deposited with him as pawned collateral. Seeking retribution for the sale of their pledged items, the group executed the kidnapping and armed robbery, subsequently attempting to suppress police intervention through targeted vandalism.
Police Case Registration and Crime Branch Arrests
In response to the criminal acts, the Badlapur West Police Station registered a case incorporating charges of extortion, assault, criminal intimidation, and violations under the Arms Act. Senior Police Inspector Kishor Shinde of the Badlapur West Police Station confirmed the official registration of the case. Concurrently, the Ulhasnagar Crime Branch initiated operations that resulted in the apprehension of 2 suspects linked to the crime, a development confirmed by Senior Police Inspector Rajesh Gajjal of the Ulhasnagar Crime Branch. Police authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact roles of remaining accomplices.
