If your mobile phone has slipped away, been stolen, or mysteriously disappeared, there is no need to panic. Jaunpur Police has explained the procedure to track down and recover missing and stolen smartphones. According to CO City IPS Goldy Gupta, when a phone goes missing, the first step is to file a complaint on the CEIR portal using its IMEI number. Additionally, it is essential to report the disappearance at the nearest police station.
Recovery of Valuable Mobile Phones
The local police department has been running a continuous campaign to trace and recover lost and stolen mobile devices. Under this ongoing drive, authorities have successfully recovered 201 mobile phones. The estimated market value of these devices is stated to be around 45 lakh rupees. These recovered smartphones are now being handed back to their rightful owners.
How to Register a Complaint on the CEIR Portal
IPS Goldy Gupta explained that immediately after losing a phone, users should gather the IMEI number and related technical details to file an online complaint on the CEIR portal. Along with this, a missing person or property report must be submitted to the relevant police station. Once the complaint is registered, if anyone inserts a new SIM card and tries to use the device, the IMEI number allows police to trace the activity.
Location Tracking and Police Investigation
According to the police, once network activity is detected on a missing phone, officers begin tracking its location. Following this, the person in possession of the device is contacted to find out how they acquired it. If the investigation reveals that the user is involved in theft or any criminal activity, strict legal action is taken against them.
In many instances, people unknowingly purchase stolen phones from local vendors. Buyers often acquire cheaper second-hand devices without realizing their illicit background. In such situations, police conduct a thorough inquiry and make every effort to return the gadget to its legitimate owner.
Extensive Recovery Record Over the Year
Police records indicate that over the past year, authorities have recovered more than 2,000 mobile phones in total. The combined value of these devices is estimated at approximately four and a half crore rupees. Officials assured that this dedicated campaign to recover lost and stolen mobile phones will continue with full momentum in the future.
