A disturbing incident has come to light from the Burnpur area under the Hirapur police station limits of the Durgapur Police Commissionerate in Asansol. A three-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to sexual assault after she visited a neighbouring house. Acting on the grievance lodged by the child's relatives, law enforcement authorities apprehended the accused individual, identified as Shankar Mondal, while launching a detailed inquiry into the matter.
Severe Pain Leads to Revelation of the Assault
According to the father of the victim, the toddler had gone over to play at a neighbour's home nearby. Upon returning, the child began crying inconsolably and complained of intense abdominal pain. When her mother gently questioned her about what had transpired, the young girl disclosed that Shankar Mondal had misbehaved with her and engaged in wrongful conduct. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the distressed parents rushed the toddler to the hospital without delay, where medical staff administered prompt treatment.
Police Alerted from Hospital Followed by Immediate Arrest
While at the medical facility, the father directly alerted the local police about the horrific occurrence. Responding quickly to the distress call, police personnel reached the spot, assessed the complaint, and placed Shankar Mondal under arrest. Investigating officials confirmed that procedural inquiries are underway across all dimensions of the case, while strictly safeguarding the identity of the minor victim in compliance with legal protections.
Family Claims Threats to Withdraw Police Complaint
The situation escalated further as the victim's family levelled serious accusations of intimidation following the arrest. The child's father alleged that two individuals, identified as Sanjay Vishwakarma and Guddu Rajak, actively exerted pressure on them to retract the official police complaint filed against the accused. Corroborating the sequence of events, the child's mother reiterated that her daughter had merely stepped out to play when the wrongful act took place. She further leveled allegations against Shankar Mondal regarding local hooliganism, asserting that he had previously encroached illegally upon multiple houses in the neighbourhood.

In contrast, relatives of Shankar Mondal have contested the charges outright. Family members defending him maintained that he is innocent and claimed that deliberate attempts are being made to falsely implicate him in the criminal case.
