Greater Noida: A tragic incident unfolded in Greater Noida on Saturday when two laborers lost their lives after plunging from the 14th floor of an under-construction building. The victims have been identified as 19-year-old Sarkar and 45-year-old Jamal Sheikh, both hailing from the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
Details of the Incident and Police Action
Providing details on the sequence of events, the media in-charge for Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh stated that the accident took place at a construction site within the Bisrakh police station jurisdiction. IIT Delhi Incident and Recent Construction Mishaps
In a separate tragic development on the same day, an M.Sc. student at the IIT Delhi campus died by suicide after jumping from the sixth floor of a building. The 31-year-old student was not carrying a suicide note, but a mobile phone was recovered from his pocket for investigation. Expressing grief, IIT Delhi released a statement mourning the untimely demise of the student on August 22, 2026, and confirmed cooperation with the Delhi police investigation while offering support to the grieving family.
Similar accidents have been reported previously in Uttar Pradesh. In Chandauli, two people were struck by debris during the demolition of a Kali temple, resulting in the death of one worker. Furthermore, three laborers were killed and another critically injured after the shuttering of an under-construction mall collapsed in Mathura. These recurring incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding workplace safety compliance in the region.
