In an age where reports of shrinking family values often surface, an inspiring story of deep filial devotion and faith has emerged from Rajasthan's Tonk district. In the town of Deoli, two sisters took on an extraordinary resolve to fulfill their elderly mother's long-cherished wish. During the holy month of Sawan, these two daughters seated their aging mother in a large basket and carried her on their heads by turns across a challenging 30-kilometer walking journey. Their physical devotion culminated in reaching the renowned Lakedeshwar Mahadev temple, where the mother safely offered prayers and performed rituals to Lord Shiva.
An Exemplary Act of Devotion and Filial Duty
This remarkable event unfolded in the Pratap Nagar area of Tejaji Colony in Deoli city, located within Tonk district. An elderly resident of the locality, Boli Devi Verma, is a devout follower of Lord Bholenath. She harbored a strong desire and a specific religious vow to visit the Lakedeshwar Mahadev temple during the sacred month of Sawan. However, due to advanced age and declining health, walking such a long distance on foot was physically impossible for her. Recognizing their mother's deep spiritual wish and keeping her health limitations in mind, her two daughters, Nandu and Norti, stepped forward with unwavering determination. The sisters decided that no obstacle would stop them from helping their mother complete her pilgrimage. They arranged a sturdy basket, carefully seated their mother inside, and took turns carrying the heavy basket on their heads to complete the entire 30-kilometer journey on foot.
Spiritual Atmosphere and Outpouring of Public Support
As Nandu and Norti walked down the road carrying their mother Boli Devi on their heads, the entire pathway transformed into a vibrant scene of celebration and spiritual fervor. Set against gentle Sawan rains, accompanying women danced joyfully to devotional Shiva songs playing on DJ sound systems. The surrounding environment resonated continuously with chants of Har Har Mahadev. Passersby and local residents who witnessed this extraordinary sight were deeply moved by the scene. People along the route warmly praised the sisters for their selfless maternal love, resilience, and dedication. At several locations along the pilgrimage route, onlookers even showered flower petals on the daughters to encourage them and honor their inspiring act.
Arrival at Lakedeshwar Mahadev Temple and Emotional Prayers
After successfully navigating the arduous 30-kilometer walk on foot, the daughters arrived safely with their mother at the sacred compound of the Lakedeshwar Mahadev temple. Upon reaching the temple, Nandu and Norti ensured their mother Boli Devi Verma performed her worship of Lord Bholenath first. Following the darshan, they performed the traditional water abhisheka ritual on the Shiva lingam. The daughters knelt in prayer before Lord Mahadev, seeking blessings for their mother's longevity, good health, and overall peace and prosperity for their family. The heartwarming sight of these daughters' selfless service brought tears of emotion to the eyes of other devotees present at the shrine, serving as a powerful reminder of the strength and dignity that daughters bring to society.
