The investigation into the horrific gangrape of a minor girl at Astha Kunj Park in Delhi has reached a crucial milestone. The three accused individuals, who are currently placed in judicial custody, were subjected to a formal Test Identification Parade (TIP) inside Tihar Jail. During this judicial verification process on Wednesday, the survivor clearly identified all three perpetrators, providing the prosecution with vital and compelling evidence against the accused.
Crucial Identification Parade Conducted in Tihar
A Delhi Police team escorted the survivor under strict security to Tihar Jail on Wednesday to conduct the formal identification proceedings. The Test Identification Parade took place under standard judicial oversight within the prison facility where all three accused are currently lodged. During the parade, the minor victim unequivocally pointed out all three men involved in the heinous crime. Legal experts consider the TIP a cornerstone piece of evidence in criminal trials, as establishing positive identification shortly after arrest substantially solidifies the prosecution's case before the court.
Sequence of the Heinous Crime
The incident unfolded when the survivor visited the Kalkaji Temple along with a male friend to offer prayers. After completing their temple visit, the duo walked into the nearby Astha Kunj Park around 7:30 PM. While they were sitting inside the park, three young men aged between 25 and 30 approached them. The suspects falsely introduced themselves as police officers and began intimidating and interrogating the duo under false pretenses.
The situation escalated quickly as the assailants overpowered and restrained the survivor's friend, ensuring he could neither resist nor raise an alarm for help. The three men then subjected the minor girl to brutal sexual violence one after another before fleeing the scene in the dark. The traumatized victims later reached out for help, triggering immediate police intervention.
Encounter and Apprehension of Prime Accused Asif
Delhi Police launched a rapid manhunt across several locations to track down the fleeing culprits. On Tuesday, law enforcement teams intercepted the primary accused, identified as Asif, leading to a brief encounter that resulted in his arrest. Following leads gathered from his capture, police quickly tracked down and apprehended the remaining two co-accused. Interrogations have been carried out to corroborate every detail of the incident, and investigators are working to build an airtight charge sheet.
Heightened Surveillance and ITBP Deployment in Astha Kunj
Following intense public outrage over the incident, security protocols inside and surrounding Astha Kunj Park have been dramatically bolstered. Personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been deployed alongside Delhi Police personnel across the sprawling park premises. Joint security patrols are actively operating through all hours of the evening and night. Authorities have surveyed the grounds to map out dark spots lacking illumination, immediately initiating enhanced monitoring and lighting measures in those vulnerable sectors.
High-Level Review Meetings by Lieutenant Governor and Police Brass
Recognizing the profound gravity of the assault, top brass at the Delhi Police Headquarters convened an extensive security meeting focusing on public safety and female security across the city. Furthermore, a crucial meeting took place between the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and senior police officials. The administrative leadership reviewed existing security arrangements across public parks and isolated recreational zones to implement stricter preventive safeguards across the capital.
