In the aftermath of the tragic building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has intensified its crackdown on dilapidated and unauthorized structures across the national capital. The civic body launched a massive administrative operation spanning all twelve zones of the city to tackle illegal constructions, property misuse, and unsafe buildings. During this extensive drive, authorities executed a total of thirty-four demolition actions while sealing seventeen properties.
Over a Thousand Demolitions in Three Months
This aggressive action forms part of a wider and continuous administrative campaign currently underway by the municipal authorities. According to official division records spanning from June 1, 2026, to September 9, 2026, the corporation has already carried out 1,053 demolition actions, sealed 491 properties, and issued 2,316 show-cause notices. Furthermore, 757 formal demolition notices have also been served to violators during this period.
Zone-Wise Breakdown of the Crackdown
The comprehensive operation witnessed targeted interventions across various localities, culminating in a total of 34 demolition drives and 17 sealing operations distributed across all 12 municipal regions to curb unauthorized real estate practices.
Narela and South Zones Witness Major Action
Among all administrative divisions, the Narela zone emerged as a primary focus during the September 9 operations, witnessing 6 large-scale demolition drives. Meanwhile, the South zone recorded the demolition of 5 unauthorized buildings. The Central zone executed 5 demolitions, while the Keshavpuram zone carried out 3 similar actions. Additionally, the Shahdara North zone reported 3 demolitions. In the West zone, enforcement teams targeted a hazardous property situated in Mansarovar Enclave Part-II within the Vikas Nagar locality.
Civil Lines and City-SP Zones Targeted for Sealing
As part of the sealing drive, 4 properties came under action in the Civil Lines zone, which notably included the Vardhman Mall penalized for property misuse. Concurrently, a major demolition drive was launched against unauthorized construction in the Sant Nagar A-1 block extension. In the City-SP zone, authorities cracked down on 4 properties engaged in unauthorized construction across Prem Nagar and the Kalan Mahal area near Jama Masjid.
Survey of PG Accommodations Highlights Safety Risks
Beyond commercial and residential structures, the civic body has also undertaken a comprehensive safety survey of paying guest accommodations across the capital. A total of 1,252 PG buildings have been surveyed so far. Out of these, minor repairs were deemed necessary in 39 buildings, while major structural repairs were recommended for 9 buildings. Crucially, 3 buildings were declared dangerous during the assessment, and one of these hazardous structures has already been demolished.
