The action invokes Sections 351(3), 353(2), and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators are systematically identifying digital handles and platforms that facilitated the viral distribution of these contentious video recordings across social media networks.
Notices Dispatched to Social Media Handles and News Portals
Following the official registration of the FIR, Delhi Police escalated their investigative measures by serving formal notices to multiple X handles, Instagram accounts, and select digital news portals. The police notices explicitly direct account administrators to immediately delete the offending video clips from their respective channels. Furthermore, law enforcement officials have mandated that these platforms provide comprehensive background information regarding the primary origin of the recordings, details on who originally captured the footage, and the verified identities of all individuals featured uttering derogatory remarks in the videos.
According to police sources, the circulating media contained explicit and highly objectionable statements directed at both PM Narendra Modi and armed forces personnel. Among the specific instances under scrutiny is a video showing a young woman hurling extreme profanities against the Prime Minister. Delhi Police remain focused on securing complete digital trails and technical evidence related to the uploads. Prior to this latest action, Delhi Police had also issued a formal written communication to the management of X, demanding exhaustive subscriber logs and account data concerning defamatory and malicious content targeted at constitutional heads of state.
Roots of the Controversy in the Jantar Mantar Student Protests
The origin of these controversial recordings is directly tied to the student agitation conducted at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, which officially concluded on July 25. During the course of the public demonstration, several video clips surfaced on social networks capturing participants using offensive and unparliamentary language against PM Modi and security forces. Following the conclusion of the protest, law enforcement agencies initiated a coordinated effort to trace how these clips were recorded, who facilitated their dissemination, and the specific individuals filmed in the crowd.
The agitation itself had experienced moments of severe tension. Police Inspector Nandkishore, who sustained injuries while on duty at the protest site, previously made a significant disclosure claiming that violent miscreants armed with sharp weapons had infiltrated the student gathering, noting that individuals wielding knives were present among the demonstrators.
