A major shooting conspiracy was successfully averted in the industrial hub of Ludhiana after a joint police team neutralized two armed assailants belonging to the notorious Donny Bal gang in a fierce gunfight. The high-stakes operation was executed near the Atam Park under-bridge by a combined force of the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab and the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police. Law enforcement officials revealed that the neutralized criminals were on a mission to execute a highly sensitive and dangerous strike in the city. A cache of modern weaponry and ammunition was seized from the possession of the deceased individuals post-encounter.
The Barricading and Midnight Gunfight
Providing details of the late-night operation, Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma identified the deceased shooters as Karanjot Singh, also known as Nona, and Sandeep Singh. Both individuals were residents of Sultanwind Road in Amritsar. Acting on precise intelligence inputs regarding an active threat in the area, the police departments had set up a special checkpoint near the Atam Park under-bridge. During the vigil, the officers spotted two suspicious men riding a black Hero Splendor motorcycle that lacked any registration plates.
When ordered to halt, the duo ignored the warning, accelerated, and attempted to flee the scene. As the police vehicles pursued them, the suspects unleashed a barrage of gunfire at the chasing party. At least two bullets struck the police vehicles during this chase, narrowly missing the officers inside. Left with no choice but to defend themselves, the police team returned fire, fatally wounding both armed suspects. A subsequent search of the site led to the recovery of three sophisticated automatic pistols along with approximately 50 live cartridges, indicating their preparedness for a prolonged shootout.
Chilling Plot to Attack a Blood Donation Camp
The preliminary investigation has unearthed a terrifying plot aimed at disrupting public peace. Investigators confirmed that both Karanjot and Sandeep were operating under the direct instructions of gangsters Donny Bal and Shaganpreet. The duo had been specifically ordered to carry out a mass shooting at a blood donation camp scheduled to take place at Maryland Palace on Dugri Road in Ludhiana on Sunday. The timely intervention of the joint police forces prevented what could have been a catastrophic incident involving innocent civilians participating in a community-driven welfare event.
Criminal History and Subsequent Prosecution
A background check of the neutralized operatives revealed a history of active criminal involvement. Karanjot Singh alias Nona was a repeat offender facing at least two active cases involving charges under the Arms Act, dacoity, and the NDPS Act. Similarly, Sandeep Singh had at least one prior criminal case registered against him. Following the encounter, the local police have initiated extensive raids across the region to track down other active members and facilitators of the Donny Bal network. An official case has been registered at the Model Town Police Station under sections 109, 221, 132, 62, and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside section 25 of the Arms Act, for further processing.
